Look, I’ll be honest – when I first rolled up to the Prize by Radisson on Weisseritzstrasse, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star spot. But you know what? This place actually gets it right in ways that matter. The building sits right in Dresden’s Altstadt, and I mean *right* in it – you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Frauenkirche, but tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with tour groups marching past your window at 7 AM.

The lobby has this clean, almost minimalist thing going on that feels more boutique than chain hotel, honestly. Check-in was refreshingly quick (the staff actually seemed to know what they were doing), and here’s something I appreciated – they gave me real local recommendations, not just the obvious tourist spots. The rooms are what I’d call smart-sized rather than cramped, with these surprisingly comfortable beds and blackout curtains that actually work. The bathroom’s compact but well-designed, and the water pressure is solid – always a gamble in older European buildings, but they’ve clearly updated the plumbing. One thing though – if you’re a light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. Weisseritzstrasse isn’t exactly a highway, but there’s enough city noise that it might bug some people.

What really sold me on this place was how it sits in the neighborhood. You’re close enough to walk to Neustadt across the Elbe when you want that artsy, bar-hopping vibe, but you can also just wander down to the Elbe riverfront in the other direction for those postcard Dresden views. There’s a decent coffee place literally around the corner (locals seem to love it), and if you need groceries or forgot something, there’s a small market about two blocks away. The tram connections are pretty solid too – you can get to the main train station or out to the suburbs without much hassle. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and the whole area felt pleasantly lived-in rather than touristy, if that makes sense. The 8.1 rating seems about right – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does all the important stuff well and the location really is hard to beat for the price point.

  I liked the friendly staff, location, and cleanliness.
  Shut windows filter out outside noises completely.
  A free coffee to go in the morning was a nice surprise.

  No glasses or mugs.
  I stayed only for a night, so it met my needs perfectly. However, on a longer stay, I would miss a safe to store valuables and a fridge to keep some cold drinks or snacks. Beware if you are a diabetic and need to keep your insulin cool.
