Motel One Dresden – Palaisplatz Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard “motel,” I wasn’t exactly expecting much from this place. But Motel One Dresden completely flipped that assumption on its head the moment I walked through those doors on Palaisplatz. You know what struck me first? The lobby actually feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out, not just rush through to get to your room. It’s got this sleek, modern vibe that somehow doesn’t feel cold or sterile – more like a really well-designed coffee shop where you might bump into creative types working on their laptops.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Dresden like a local rather than just tick off the tourist boxes. You’re right in Neustadt, which – and this is something most guidebooks don’t really capture – is where the city’s actual personality lives. I mean, sure, the Old Town across the river has all the postcard-worthy baroque buildings and the famous Frauenkirche, but Neustadt is where you’ll find the quirky bars, the late-night eateries, and streets like Hauptstraße where locals actually go out. From the hotel, it’s maybe a ten-minute walk to cross the Augustus Bridge into the historic center, but honestly, some evenings I found myself just wandering around the neighborhood instead. The rooms themselves are surprisingly well thought out for the price point – everything’s compact but clever, sort of like someone actually considered how real people use hotel rooms. The beds are properly comfortable (not that weird firm-but-somehow-also-lumpy thing you sometimes get), and they’ve managed to fit a decent workspace without making the whole room feel cramped. The bathrooms have good water pressure, which, let’s face it, can make or break a travel day.
What really won me over, though, was how the staff seemed to genuinely know their city. When I asked about good spots for breakfast that weren’t touristy, the guy at reception didn’t just hand me a generic map – he sketched out a little route to this bakery on Rothenburger Straße that locals queue up at on weekend mornings. That kind of insider knowledge you just can’t fake. The bar downstairs gets pleasantly busy in the evenings without being rowdy, and if you’re staying on the lower floors, you might catch some of that energy (though it dies down by a reasonable hour). Parking can be a bit tricky in this part of Dresden – it’s mostly street parking that fills up pretty quick, but there’s a garage about three blocks away that the hotel can point you toward. One small thing that caught my attention: the whole place has this subtle design theme running through it that nods to Dresden’s history without beating you over the head with it. You’ll spot little touches here and there that reference the city’s porcelain heritage or its musical traditions, but it never feels gimmicky. For what you pay, especially considering you’re getting a genuinely local neighborhood experience plus easy access to all the major sights, it’s honestly hard to find fault with the place.

Reviews of Motel One Dresden – Palaisplatz
Nice hotel but expensive breakfast and parking – George from United Kingdom – June 18, 2025 (7/10)
Good location near to both old and new towns. Excellent public transport available. Smart looking hotel with a nice bar. Friendly staff. Comfortable king size bed.
What could be improved: Breakfast too expensive – there are several places very close by for much cheaper breakfasts. Room too small. Parking too expensive. We belatedly realised we could have parked across the road for considerably less. There were plenty of spaces available there.Very Good – Julian from United Kingdom – April 4, 2025 (8/10)
Good location
What could be improved: Would have liked tea/coffee making facilities in room.Wonderful – Clemens from Austria – March 18, 2025 (9/10)
Good location, friendly staff
Wonderful – Francesca from Netherlands – January 3, 2025 (9/10)
The room was small but had everything, was spotless clean, and the bed was super comfortable. The location of the hotel is very convenient, just 20 min walk from the old city centre. The breakfast was good and varied. The car park is a little pricey but convenient. The entrance to the car park is in the road behind the hotel and a little difficult to find. Overall, good value for money and cozy hotel.
What could be improved: Nothing all was good.Good – Ian from United Kingdom – December 4, 2024 (7/10)
It was convenient to Dresden Neuhaur station. It was located across the bridge so about 15 min walk to the main old town area. The foyer was nice and welcoming seating area with reasonably priced bar.
What could be improved: The rooms were not very big, there are no tea / coffee facilities in the rooms.Convenient, comfortable, clean, considerate. – Dan from United Kingdom – November 19, 2024 (9/10)
The friendly staff at reception and breakfast. The colour turquoise. The showers rotating head with great power and heat. The location in relation to my plans. Smoking area. Comfort of bed.
What could be improved: Breakfast was good but a couple euros overpriced.Wonderful – Steph from Australia – November 3, 2024 (9/10)
Very pleasant as a solo traveller to sit in the lounge/bar in the evening, have a drink, read a book, and chat with other travellers.
Excellent value for money in a great area of Dresden – Oana from Romania – October 28, 2024 (9/10)
Room was exceptionally clean, bed very comfortable, a lot of well-placed plugs. Location was also very good, a quick trip by tram into the centre, and walkable from Neustadt area. A safe and well connected area, with plenty of great restaurants accessible on foot, but also quiet. Neustad Bahnhof is also accessible on foot, which is great for travellers who come in by train (most DB trains make a stop there).
What could be improved: Breakfast could have had a wider range of warm dishes beside only boiled eggs. With a lengthy schedule, we could have used some more protein in the morning. As such, the price is a bit steep for what is offered.Very Good – Ágoston from Hungary – October 16, 2024 (8/10)
The staff is extreamly helpful and kind
What could be improved: There was no iron, and no table for working
But all together it is a nice and good placeRecommend Motel One chain. – Ilze from Latvia – August 31, 2024 (9/10)
Nice and very clean hotel, friendly staff. Great lobby bar. Street parking is good alternative to private parking. This was my second time in Motel One chain hotel. Highly recommend.
What could be improved: All was good.
