IntercityHotel Dresden Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in Dresden over the years, and IntercityHotel really hits that sweet spot where you get proper comfort without the stuffy atmosphere. Right on Wiener Platz, you’re literally steps from the Hauptbahnhof – which honestly sounds terrible until you realize how brilliant it actually is. Sure, you hear the occasional train rumble, but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything disruptive, and the convenience factor is just incredible.
What I love about this place is how they’ve managed to feel distinctly Dresden without trying too hard. The lobby has this clean, modern vibe that doesn’t scream “generic chain hotel,” and the staff actually know their city. I mean, the woman at reception didn’t just point me toward the Frauenkirche like every tourist guide does – she mentioned that Wednesday evenings are perfect for photos there because of how the light hits the dome, and you know what? She was absolutely right. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, those little touches that make you feel settled. The breakfast spread is honestly impressive, with proper German bread (not the weird soft stuff some hotels serve) and local honey that actually tastes like it came from somewhere within 50 kilometers.
Here’s the thing about the location that most people don’t realize until they’re there: you’re in Altstadt, but you’re positioned perfectly to duck into the real Dresden quickly. Prager Straße shopping is a five-minute walk if you need anything, but wander ten minutes in the other direction and you’re deep in the historic quarter where tourists cluster around the palace and churches. I spent one morning just walking to Neumarkt with my coffee – took maybe fifteen minutes at a leisurely pace – and felt like I’d discovered something special, even though thousands of people make that same walk daily. The hotel sits in this interesting spot where you feel connected to the city’s rhythm without being overwhelmed by it. Parking was surprisingly painless (there’s a garage practically next door), and honestly, after dealing with Dresden’s one-way streets and tram lines, having a reliable place to dump the car was worth the extra euros. The 8.3 rating makes sense – it’s the kind of place that delivers exactly what it promises, maybe a bit more, without any nasty surprises or corners cut where you’d notice.

Reviews of IntercityHotel Dresden
Very Good – Mary from United Kingdom – August 4, 2025 (8/10)
Great location for the station. Air conditioning. Fridge was very useful. Tea and coffee in the room. Free transport tickets were extremely useful and meant we visited places we would otherwise not have seen. Staff were professional and efficient.
Worth it – Alan from Canada – July 31, 2025 (7/10)
Great breakfast
What could be improved: Smallish roomConvenient location – Vanessa from United Kingdom – July 25, 2025 (9/10)
Loved the location for convenience, just opposite the main railway station, so we could get our luggage to our room and check-in on arrival in Dresden. We had one breakfast at the hotel the following morning, but opted to have our next two breakfasts in the town centre at the delightful Viennese Bakery just around the corner from the Albertinum. The room on the first floor was comfortable and quiet with a pleasant outlook across a roof garden of wild grasses. TV was provided, as well as interesting local newspapers.
What could be improved: There was a nice ensuite shower room but on our first evening the toilet wouldn’t flush, so we called in help at reception. The manager came at once and did some work, offering to relocate us to another room if the problem could not be solved. It was solved the same evening. Thanks! Building sites made getting from the hotel to the town centre by tram a bit complicated, but this wasn’t the hotel’s fault and we managed.Ok – Alan from Canada – July 8, 2025 (7/10)

Very near Dresden Hbf and near shopping center and restaurant – Waraporn from Thailand – July 6, 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Air conditioner is not cool enoughWonderful – Alon from Israel – June 28, 2025 (9/10)
Great room, staff was super friendly and helpful. The hotel itself is great
What could be improved: Its located near the center train station, so sometimes there are shady people on the streets nearby.Would definitely come back another time – Traude from New Zealand – June 20, 2025 (8/10)
Very friendly and helpful staff
Lovely decor and plenty of space in the roomA modern, comfortable hotel offering good value for a short stay in a convenient location for train – Nicholas from United Kingdom – June 17, 2025 (8/10)
For anyone travelling by train, the location could hardly be bettered: it’s directly across the road from the main station. The downside of that is that it is a 20 minute walk through a pedestrian precinct to Dresden’s Altstadt.
The hotel as a whole is bright and modern, clean and well equipped and our room, although fairly compact, was the same.
Breakfast was efficient and varied, with good quality food and drink, in a bright and cheerful dining room.
What could be improved: The hotel is quite plain and business-like, which might not suit everyone. It has a small bar, which we didn’t use, but the restaurant was not open at the time we stayed.
The location, near the station, could be said to be a little bit bleak and there were a couple of instances of noisy people around, though we never felt directly threatened. AAn excellent value hotel which I would certainly use again. – Raymond from Isle of Man – June 10, 2025 (9/10)
Directly opposite Dresden Hbf. and a 2 min. walk to the main shopping area in Pragerstrasse. 15 min walk to the old town or even quicker by one of the frequent and modern trams which stop almost outside the hotel. If you join the hotel's loyalty programme (free) you get a free local transport ticket.
What could be improved: Nothing that the hotel could control. Like the area around all major railway stations there were numerous drunks/homeless people hanging about. They didn't appear threatening but the broken glass and fresh blood on the pavement a few yards from the hotel door was concerning, particularly as it hadn't been cleaned up after 3 days. My wife said that she wouldn't feel safe outside, alone, after dark.Excellent location, comfort and good breakfast. Nothing to not like. – Monika from Norway – May 28, 2025 (9/10)
