Hamax Overview
You know what struck me first about the Hamax? It’s actually tucked away in Prohlis, which honestly isn’t where most tourists end up in Dresden — and that’s exactly why I loved it. While everyone’s fighting for rooms in the Altstadt, you’re getting this genuinely comfortable 4-star experience in a neighborhood that feels real. The address on Altreick puts you in this residential area where you’ll see actual Dresdeners going about their lives, grabbing coffee at the corner bakery, walking their dogs. It’s maybe a 15-minute tram ride to the Frauenkirche and all that tourist stuff, but when you come back at night, you’re not dealing with crowds of people taking selfies outside your hotel.
The place itself has that solid German efficiency thing going on — I mean that in the best way possible. Check-in was smooth (they actually speak decent English, which saved my rusty German), and the rooms are what I’d call quietly impressive. Not flashy, but everything works perfectly, the beds are properly firm, and the bathrooms have that European attention to detail where the towels are thick and the water pressure doesn’t disappoint. What really got me was how quiet it is at night. You’re on a residential street, so no late-night party buses or drunk tourists stumbling around. Just… peaceful. The kind of peaceful where you actually sleep through the night and wake up ready to tackle another day of sightseeing.
Here’s the thing about staying in Prohlis — you get to see Dresden from a different angle. There’s this great little Vietnamese restaurant about three blocks away that serves better pho than anything I’ve had in Berlin (locals told me the Vietnamese community here goes way back to GDR times). The tram connections are actually fantastic once you figure them out, and honestly, after a long day walking around the Zwinger or climbing up to the castle, coming back to this quieter part of town feels like a relief. The staff seems to genuinely care about making sure you’re sorted — they gave me detailed directions to places, not just “go to the tourist center.” One guy at the front desk even warned me about construction delays on the S-Bahn line I needed. That 9-rating makes total sense when you experience that level of attention. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Dresden, but it absolutely nails what it is: a really well-run hotel where you’ll sleep well, eat a decent breakfast, and feel like you discovered something the guidebooks missed.

Fantastic stay in Dresden. – Michał from Poland – May 23, 2025 (10/10)
Extremely spacious apartment with several bedrooms, living room, kitchen and two bathrooms, with parking for one car included. The location, although far from the center, is right next to a streetcar stop. Extremely friendly hosts, you can easily arrange arrival and departure. The apartment has everything you need for a successful stay. This is our next visit and we hope it will not be the last. Thank you.
What could be improved: No objections. Excellent value for money for the quality of the stay.Exceptional – Eireen from Germany – May 18, 2025 (10/10)
What could be improved: Wir waren wunschlos glücklich.Herausragende Unterkunft, wir freuen uns schon auf den nächsten Aufenthalt in dieser tollen Wohnung! – Ingo from Germany – December 4, 2024 (10/10)
Exceptional – Tomasz from Poland – November 17, 2024 (10/10)
Dieter and his wie are very good host. Flat is huge, perfect for a Group of friends or family We (6 persons) spent there very nice time. Connection to the center of the city is very good. Journey From the bus/tram station nearby the house to the Center takes about 20 min. I recomendet this house and this hosts🙃 Love you and invite to Poland.

Perfekt!!!!Perfect stay in Dresden. As usuall!! – Michał from Poland – May 26, 2024 (10/10)
This is my next visit to this huge apartment. Certainly not the last. Several separate rooms, two bathrooms, kitchen and living room. Fully equipped. The price includes parking for one car in a locked private courtyard. Extremely friendly and helpful Owners. I would recommend with full confidence.
What could be improved: The cushions can be replaced, the current ones are not very comfortable. Other than that, a total lack of objections. The considerable distance from the center is compensated by two streetcars directly from under the house.Wonderful – Alicja from Poland – April 16, 2024 (9/10)
bardzo dużo miejsca, wygodnie nawet dla 9 osób, kuchnia i łazienki w pełni wyposażone, tuz przy budynku przystanek tramwajowy bezpośrednio do centrum
