I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this apartment on Grunaer Weg – honestly, the name “Whg./flat am Großen Garten” doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue – but this little gem in Blasewitz really surprised me. The building sits on this quiet residential street that feels properly Dresden, not touristy at all, and you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Großer Garten’s main entrance. I mean, that’s the real deal right there – not some “conveniently located near attractions” nonsense, but actually being able to step out your door and be in one of the city’s most beautiful parks before your morning coffee kicks in.

What I loved about staying here is how it feels like borrowing a local friend’s place rather than checking into some sterile hotel room. The apartment itself is simple but thoughtful – three-star rating feels about right, though honestly the 8.4 guest score makes total sense once you settle in. The kitchen actually works (I made proper breakfasts, not just instant coffee), and the windows open wide enough to let in those cool Dresden mornings when the city’s still waking up. There’s this lovely view toward the garden area, and if you’re lucky enough to visit during late spring, you’ll catch the chestnut trees blooming along the street. Parking was surprisingly easy too – just street parking, but Blasewitz isn’t crazy busy like the Altstadt, so I never had to circle around endlessly with my luggage getting heavier by the minute.

Here’s the thing that really sold me on this place – the location gives you the best of both worlds without the tourist trap pricing. You’re far enough from the crowds that you can actually walk through Großer Garten in the early morning and have whole pathways to yourself, but the tram connections (there’s a stop maybe seven minutes away) get you to the Frauenkirche or Zwinger in about twenty minutes. The neighborhood has this authentic Dresden residential vibe – you’ll see locals walking their dogs, kids heading to school, the occasional elderly couple sharing a bench by the park entrance. It’s the kind of area where you can grab groceries at the nearby shops without feeling like you’re paying tourist prices for everything. I actually ended up extending my stay an extra night because checking out felt like leaving a neighborhood I’d grown attached to, which honestly doesn’t happen often when you travel as much as I do.

  Alles Bestens. Die Wohnung ist sehr gut ausgestattet und sauber. Ruhige Wohngegend, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Nahverkehr alles in der Nähe.

  What could be improved: Die Fotos im Angebot waren etwas verwirrend. Wir hatten vermutet, das die Wohnung zu einem Restaurant gehört. Diese befindet sich aber in einem Neubauhaus (siehe Foto).

  Spacious and mostly well furnished. We missed having an iron in the apartment and also some smaller pots to use as the ones supplied are very big for 2 people.

  Got the keys inside an open door leading to the apartment while talking to the host over the phone who was giving me instructions on how to open the main building door and accessing the apartment. It was fairly easy. The area seemed quite peaceful and just across an academic research institution.
  
  What could be improved: The double bed did not have the usual height. Hence, it was a bit difficult for me and my wife, who are both seniors, to get in and out of bed.
