Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Gästewohnung Elström on Bautzner Landstraße, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The address made it sound super formal, but this place is actually tucked away in Weißer Hirsch, which is honestly one of Dresden’s best-kept secrets if you ask me. It’s this quiet, tree-lined neighborhood that feels worlds away from the tourist crowds downtown, but you’re still only about 15 minutes by tram to all the main sights. The building itself has that solid German architecture thing going on – you know, the kind where you can tell it’s been standing strong for decades and will probably outlast us all.

What really got me was how thoughtfully everything’s set up inside. The owners, the Elströms, have clearly put actual thought into what travelers need rather than just throwing together some generic apartment rental. The kitchen actually has proper knives (miracle!), there’s decent coffee equipment, and – this might sound small but it matters – the wifi doesn’t cut out every ten minutes like so many places I’ve stayed. The whole space feels lived-in rather than sterile, if that makes sense. There are these little touches everywhere, like local guidebooks that aren’t just the standard tourist traps, and they’ve got this cozy seating area where you can actually picture yourself hanging out in the evening with a beer from the corner shop. Speaking of which, there’s a proper German bakery literally two blocks away that does these incredible Sunday morning rolls – the kind of local spot you’d never find if you were staying in some chain hotel in the city center.

The location in Weißer Hirsch is really what makes this place special though. During the day, it’s peaceful enough that you can leave your windows open and actually hear birds instead of traffic, but you’re not stuck in the middle of nowhere either. The tram stop is maybe a three-minute walk, and honestly, I started looking forward to that ride into Dresden each morning – you get these glimpses of the Elbe valley that remind you why people have been drawn to this area for centuries. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s tried to navigate Dresden’s city center with a rental car will appreciate. The Elströms clearly know their stuff when it comes to hosting – check-in was smooth, they were around when I had questions but didn’t hover, and the place was spotless without feeling like I was afraid to touch anything. That 9.3 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here. It’s the kind of place where everything just works the way it should, and you end up feeling more like a temporary local than a tourist passing through.

  The apartment is huge and really well-maintained, super clean. The hosts are super lovely, they met us, showed and explained everything and even gave us a little present for Easter. The location is great too, with easy access to Dresden city centre by both public transport and private car. Some good eating and drinking options are nearby.

  What could be improved: Alles prima. Man könnte lediglich anmerken, dass uns für einen längeren Aufenthalt eine Spülmaschine fehlen würde und der Preis (gerechtfertigt) dann doch sehr hoch ist.

  Było czysto. Pokoje duże, kuchnia odpowiednio wyposażona, łazienka czysta. Właściciele bardzo pomocni i uprzejmi. Plusem jest miejsce parkingowe. Serdecznie polecam .

  Die Unterkunft war sehr sauber und hatte auch eine gute Lage. In direkter Nähe gab es eine Einkaufsmöglichkeit sowie eine gute Anbindung an die Stadt.
