You know what caught me off guard about FeWo am Zwinger? The name makes it sound like some generic apartment rental, but honestly, this place has way more personality than most hotels I’ve stayed at in Dresden’s old town. It’s right there on Freiberger Strasse – and I mean *right there* in the thick of Altstadt – so you’re basically living like a local in one of those beautiful old buildings that somehow survived the war.

The location is actually ridiculous in the best way possible. I could literally see the Zwinger palace from my window (hence the name, which makes total sense once you’re there), and the Semperoper is maybe a three-minute walk. But here’s the thing nobody tells you – being this central means you’re going to hear some street noise, especially on weekend evenings when people are wandering between the Christmas markets in winter or just bar-hopping in summer. I didn’t mind it because, well, you’re in the heart of one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, but light sleepers might want to pack earplugs.

What really sold me on this place was how it felt like staying in someone’s actual apartment rather than a sterile hotel room. The building has that solid, old-world feel – thick walls, high ceilings, the kind of place where you can imagine centuries of Dresden residents calling home. The staff clearly know the neighborhood inside and out too, which came in handy when I was looking for decent coffee early in the morning (there’s a great little café on Schössergasse, by the way, that the front desk guy recommended). Parking was honestly easier than I expected for being so central – they’ve got arrangements with a nearby garage, though I’d definitely ask about it when booking because Dresden’s old town isn’t exactly car-friendly. The whole experience felt refreshingly authentic, you know? Like they’re not trying to be something they’re not, just offering a really solid base for exploring one of Germany’s most stunning cities. And with an 8.7 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks they’re doing something right.

Hotel in Dresden booking should be done early, especially during opera season when the city hosts internationally acclaimed performances at the famous Semperoper.

  Good location, within walking distance to the city centre. Very clean and spacious apartment. Main utensils available. Good contact with the host.

  It was a superior location, everything was close by. walking distance to the Semper Oper, the magnificant old city center and city wall. Shopping oppertunity less than 5 minutes away in the Big Mall. Multiple restaurants in the direct area.
  The city pool just a skip and a hobble away. Fantastic!!!!!

  The apartment was very clean and quite spacious, location is perfect for visiting Dresden. Communication with the landlords was smooth, the instructions to fins the keys, apartment & parking space were clear.
  
  What could be improved: Bed mattresses were very soft and I ended up with back pain 🙁 Not enough supplies (i.e. toilet paper). Windows overlook quite a busy street, so you can hear traffic also at night. Also the parking space is probably shared with other apartments, so it might not be always available, as it happened in my case. The landlords were accommodating and offered another parking space, but only for 2 days out of 4 of my stay.

  Location was good but it was difficult to work with an agency they supplied wrong key code which caused us to stay outside for few hours and we were able to reach agency only because of lucky coincidence

  No comment on staff, as we did not come in direct contact with anybody. We picked keys up from locked box. Communication on phone helpfully attitude, but did not speak English.

  The room was spacious and had connecting kitchen (with a small electric stove and microwave). I wished there was toaster, so I did not had to take the Pan out when I just needed to make a toast. The bathroom was good and had a heated rack for towels. I think they do not give toiletries, which was fine with us as we had ours.
  There is no washer in the unit we had. There was elevator (thankfully).
  The apartment had a hallway to keep our luggage and shoes.
  We got there by train and left by train. From train station to get to the apartment in the cold/rainy weather was not fun, as it is some distance away. A lady met us to hand over the keys but it would have been great if she could have met us at the apartment itself ( My son went to the place to get the keys, as I was already tired dragging my luggage in the bad weather).
  The communication with the host was excellent.
  Apartment had King size bed (USA standard).
  Since the weather was bad, we thought of watching Netflix (I have the account) but we couldn't figure it out if/how to login. The TV was all in German obviously and we ended up watching something on our phone.
  
  What could be improved: I wished the kitchen had a toaster.
  If people can login to their Netflix account, since there is TV in the apartment.
  Heads up that this place is a little distance from train station but it was close to X-Mas markets and other attractions.
