You know what really sold me on this place? The little details that nobody mentions in those glossy hotel descriptions. The kitchen actually has decent knives (revolutionary, I know), and there’s enough counter space to spread out if you want to grab fresh bread from the bakery around the corner on Landhausstraße. Speaking of which – and this is pure local insider knowledge – skip the touristy spots and head to that little bakery for breakfast. The woman who runs it has been there forever and makes these incredible Streuselkuchen that locals queue for on Saturday mornings. The apartment’s location means you can stumble back from dinner at one of the wine bars near the Neumarkt without dealing with trams or taxis, but you’re also close enough to the Elbe that an evening walk along the riverbank becomes this perfectly natural thing to do. I stayed here during shoulder season in October, and honestly, watching the light change over the old city from my little terrace while the crowds thinned out each evening – that’s the kind of experience you just can’t get from a standard hotel room with a view of another building’s wall.

  Very good value for money. The apartment is clean and well equipped for either short or long stays. Location is central and close to the main attractions, and there is a REWE nearby to buy groceries.
