Ferienwohnung Schlupp Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much from Ferienwohnung Schlupp when I first walked up to the building on Breitscheidstrasse – I mean, the name itself sounds more like someone clearing their throat than a place you’d want to stay. But honestly, this little apartment hotel completely surprised me, and that 9.6 rating actually makes perfect sense once you’ve been there.
The thing about staying in Blasewitz is that you’re sort of in this sweet spot where you feel like a local but you’re not stuck way out in the suburbs. It’s maybe a 15-minute tram ride into Dresden’s old town, but the neighborhood itself has this lived-in charm that the touristy areas obviously can’t match. There’s a proper bakery just down the street (I think it was called Bäckerei something-or-other) where locals actually queue up in the mornings, and you’ll hear more German than English, which I always take as a good sign. The apartment itself was surprisingly spacious – I’d booked expecting your typical cramped European rental, but there was actually room to spread out my stuff without living out of a suitcase. The kitchen was properly equipped too, not just some token mini-fridge and hot plate situation. I ended up cooking a few meals because, honestly, after a week of restaurant food you start craving something simple.
What really got me was the attention to small details that most places completely ignore. The Wi-Fi was fast (like, actually fast, not “hotel fast”), the shower had proper water pressure, and there were blackout curtains that actually blocked light – you know how rare that is? The woman who handled check-in was lovely, spoke excellent English when my terrible German failed me, and gave me a hand-drawn map with her favorite local spots marked on it. I mean, when’s the last time that happened at a chain hotel? The building itself is pretty quiet, even though you’re on a proper street with some traffic. I was worried about noise initially, but the windows must be double-glazed or something because I slept fine. The only minor thing was that parking can be a bit tricky if you’ve got a rental car – street parking fills up in the evenings, but there’s usually something within a block or two if you don’t mind walking a bit.
Look, Dresden gets crazy busy during peak season, and everyone piles into those big hotels near the Frauenkirche where you’re paying premium prices to be surrounded by tour groups. This place gives you space to breathe and actually experience what it’s like to stay in a German neighborhood, not just visit one. Plus, at a 3-star price point with nearly 10-star service, it’s honestly one of those rare finds that makes you feel a bit smug about your travel planning skills.
Early hotels booking in Dresden requires advance planning during peak cultural seasons when visitors flock to see the city’s remarkable post-war reconstruction and artistic treasures.

The flat is very cute and well kept. The kitchen is equipped with everything that one might need. I could tell that it was prepared with care and consideration. Frau Schlupp was so nice and sweet, it was a pleasure to get to know her. The area is so quiet, specially at night, which is a great plus. It's a bit far from center but the tram stop is 10 min walk and trams were quite often. Overall great experience.

Ausstattung der Wohnung und der Küche, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel in der Nähe.
Freundliche Vermieter.
What could be improved: Wenn das Auto stehen bleiben soll, müßten die Fahrpreise der Öffies gesenkt werden, aber das ist ja ein politisches Problem.Very Good – Francesco from Germany – December 19, 2023 (8/10)
Sehr herzlich, gute Lage, große Räume

Suitable location at a good price – Ray from Australia – September 25, 2022 (9/10)
The owner was lovely and very helpful. It was a very clean little flat, everything worked well with a good amount of space that is really perfect for two people. There is public transport close by so it is easy to get into the city once you work out the stop you want and get the ticket. If we went back to Dresden I would consider staying again.
What could be improved: The house is on a main road and there is no parking out the front or on site and the gate was closed when we arrived. You need to pull up on the footpath, go and see the owner and then open the gate and drop of your things and find a carpark nearby. We had little trouble but we had a small car. Depending on the time of day it could be a challenge.
