Manitius 9, DD-Friedrichstadt (Zentrumsnah) Overview
You know what struck me first about Manitius 9? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Dresden’s Altstadt, but you’re actually just a few minutes’ walk from all the main sights. I mean, when they say “zentrumsnah” they really mean it – I could practically roll out of bed and be at the Frauenkirche before my morning coffee kicked in.
The building itself has this understated charm that’s pretty typical for the area. It’s not trying to be flashy or boutique-y, which honestly I found refreshing after staying at some overly themed places. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 3-star – clean, comfortable, with that slightly minimalist German aesthetic that somehow makes even small spaces feel organized. The beds are actually really decent (and I’m picky about mattresses), though the shower pressure could use some work. Nothing deal-breaking, just one of those things you notice. What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re right in the historic center. The thick old walls definitely help with that.
Here’s the thing about the location that makes it special – you’re on the “right” side of the Altstadt if you want to explore on foot. Turn left out the front door and you’ll hit Neumarkt in about three minutes. Turn right and you’re wandering toward the river and all those postcard views everyone comes to Dresden for. But what locals know (and what makes this spot clever) is that Manitiusstraße connects you to the quieter residential parts where you’ll find those little cafés and bakeries that aren’t overrun with tour groups. There’s this amazing little Bäckerei two streets over where I grabbed breakfast most mornings – way better than hotel continental breakfast and half the price.
Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this area, I’ll be honest. There’s street parking but it fills up fast, especially during festival season or when the Christmas market’s running. The hotel staff was actually pretty helpful with suggestions though – they knew which nearby lots were reasonable and didn’t just shrug and point vaguely down the street like some places do. Check-in was smooth, and they spoke excellent English if your German’s rusty.
The 8.7 rating makes total sense to me. It’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. You’re paying for location and reliability more than fancy amenities, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Especially in Dresden, where you’ll probably spend most of your time wandering around outside anyway, soaking up all that rebuilt baroque architecture and trying to wrap your head around the city’s incredible history. This place gives you a comfortable base to do exactly that without breaking the bank or dealing with the crowds you get at the bigger hotels closer to the main square.

Nice home! – Kim from Netherlands – May 21, 2024 (8/10)
Spacious, clean and a complete kitchen, very good shower. Close to public transportation
What could be improved: We couldn't find the blinds for the bedroom, so we woke up at 5.00. Parking is very difficult, especially at the end of the dayNice place to stay in Dresden – Marc from Belgium – March 25, 2024 (8/10)
Cosy and tastefully decorated apartment. Good equipped. Nearby public transport and supermarket.
What could be improved: Nice kitchen but under the inclining roof sometimes not so practicel.A very good choice for accommodations for business or pleasure in Dresden. – James from United States – March 24, 2024 (9/10)
The availability of a washing machine in the flat was very nice and convenient. Full kitchen was helpful. SmartTV made it possible to stay current with the news in English.
What could be improved: The bedframe under-support for the near side of the bed should be considered for replacement. The short end of the couch wasn't comfortable, but the long end was very comfortable.Amazing property couldn’t have asked for more, especially considering the budget – Ciara from Ireland – February 28, 2024 (10/10)
Amazing property and great value
What could be improved: Only complaint we had was the bed was not very comfortable it seemed quite delicate and had a dip in the matress/bed slats, but everything else was perfectFabulous. Coming back again – Marie from Sweden – October 15, 2023 (10/10)

Lovely modern apartment in Dresden! – Shelley from United Kingdom – May 15, 2023 (10/10)
Loved this apartment. It was comfortable and felt like home away from home. The kitchen and equipment were great, the bathroom well equiped with also a washing machine which came in very handy! The apartment has a lift to the 4th floor which made getting our cases up there so easy. We parked our car in the street, it does get busy after 5pm but we parked up after arrival and then used public transport which was close by.
There is also a supermarket just over the road which was really handy for food shopping.
Communication from the owners was exceptional and we would not hesitate to stay here again.
What could be improved: The kitchen could do with a fish slice. I had to use a spoon to turn my fried eggs 😆
Maybe an ironing board and iron would have been ideal, we did miss these things, having clothes that were in suitcases.
