Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Gästehaus Matthias on Jüngststrasse, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard residential building in Blasewitz. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the street.

The thing about this guesthouse is that it actually feels like staying at someone’s well-organized relative’s place – and I mean that in the best possible way. The rooms are clean without being sterile, comfortable without being fancy. What really sold me was how quiet it gets at night, which honestly surprised me since you’re still technically in the city. Blasewitz has this weird ability to feel suburban while keeping you connected to everything Dresden has to offer. You can walk down to the Elbe in about ten minutes if you want to clear your head, or catch the tram into Altstadt without any hassle. The 61 line runs pretty regularly, and there’s actually a decent bakery just around the corner on Tolkewitzer Straße where locals grab their morning rolls – you’ll know you found the right one when you see the line of older German ladies at 7 AM.

Here’s what I really appreciated: Matthias (yeah, the actual guy) seems to run a tight ship without being uptight about it. Check-in was straightforward, no weird rules about when you can come and go, and the whole place just works the way you’d want it to. The apartments give you enough space to spread out if you’re staying more than a couple nights, which is perfect if you’re doing the slower travel thing instead of rushing through Dresden’s highlights. I mean, the bathroom wasn’t huge, but everything functioned properly – hot water showed up when promised, decent water pressure, towels that actually dried you off. Small things, but they matter when you’re trying to get ready in the morning. The kitchen setup in the apartment units is basic but functional – you’re not going to be hosting dinner parties, but you can definitely handle breakfast and simple meals without feeling cramped. And honestly, for what you’re paying, the value is pretty solid. Dresden can get expensive during festival season or when the Christmas markets are running, but places like this keep you from blowing your budget on accommodation while still giving you a proper base to explore from.

Hotel in Dresden booking should be done early, especially during opera season when the city hosts internationally acclaimed performances at the famous Semperoper.

  Sehr geschmackvoll und sauber eingerichtet! Sehr ruhig gelegen, aber trotzdem in 2 Minuten bei der Straßenbahn. Sehr unkomplizierte Kommunikation und CheckIn. Gerne jederzeit wieder!

  広くて清潔なアパートメントです。キッチン用具も揃っています。トラムもすぐ近くにあるので、市内観光に便利な立地です。アパートの周りは静かで、ゆっくり休暇を楽しむには最適。買い物をしたい時にはスーパーも近くにあります。

  Sehr zentral gelegen. Man kommt fußläufig in 10 Minuten zum blauen Wunder. Das Zimmer war sehr sauber, netter Gastgeber. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

  Wir waren sehr zufrieden, alles super sauber und glänzend!
  
  What could be improved: Kopfkissen sind sehr dünn und es gab nur Federbetten, die sehr warm waren. Die Heizung im Bad müsste entlüftet werden.
  Ansonsten nichts zu bemängeln. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

  Very quiet and nice room in a 3-floor house. Ideal for a short vacation with your wife/husband. The street looks like medieval street from fantasy films, attarctive houses, many trees, extremely quiet and trams 6 and 10 in 2 min walk distance.
  Main train station and city center can be reached in around 20 min by tram.
  
  We played a concert at The Great Jam at Dynamo Stadium and were back very late (around 00:00), but I hope this did not cause problems for the owner and other people.
  
  Matthias is a very pleasant and understanding man, I would highly recommend this place to anyone who is in doubt.
  In July next year we play The Great Jam concert again and hope to come to this place.
  
  What could be improved: I definitely can not complain. If you do not travel with a 88-keys keyboard, then everything is fine. And if you do – then be aware, that floors at the stairs are around 2m high.

  Nice family-run hotel, situated a bit outside of the city center, in a green environment. Good connections by tram to the center. A good supermarket in abt 10 minutes walking distance, to the other shops, cafes and restaurants as well.
  The apartment consisted of a hall, one bed room, a small well equipped kitchen and a big bathroom. All of them were sparkling clean.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was okay, in the shower corner some sewerage problems from time to time.
