Altstadtwohnung in TOP-Lage nähe Zwinger Overview
You know what struck me first about this place? The address literally says it all – you’re right on Schützengasse in Dresden’s old town, which honestly puts you about a three-minute walk from the Zwinger. I mean, when I say close, I’m talking you-can-see-the-baroque-towers-from-the-street close. It’s one of those ground floor apartments (that’s what “EG” means, by the way) where you actually feel like you’re living in the historic center rather than just visiting it.
The thing about staying here is you’re smack in the middle of everything that matters in Dresden, but – and this surprised me – it’s actually quiet at night. Schützengasse isn’t one of those main tourist drags where you’ve got groups wandering around until 2 AM. You’ll hear the occasional tram in the distance (the nearest stop is literally around the corner), but it’s more of a gentle city hum than anything disruptive. The apartment itself has that solid, old-building feel – thick walls, high ceilings, windows that actually open properly. Nothing fancy, mind you, but everything works and it’s clean. I’d call it comfortable rather than luxurious, which honestly suits the vibe of staying in a real Dresden neighborhood.
What I really appreciated was how walkable everything becomes from this spot. The Frauenkirche is maybe five minutes on foot, the Semperoper about the same. You can wander down to the Elbe riverfront without breaking a sweat, and if you want to explore the Neustadt across the river – that’s where the better restaurants and nightlife are, by the way – it’s just a pleasant stroll across the Augustus Bridge. The host seems to know the area well too; they left some actually useful local tips, not just the obvious tourist stuff. For a three-star rating with an 8 out of 10 from other guests, I’d say that’s about right – it’s not going to wow you with amenities, but the location absolutely delivers on its promise, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re trying to experience Dresden like you actually live there for a few days.

The location is very good for exploring the old part of Dresden. And a nice walk to the Neustadt area. The room was clean and pretty large. And it was warm – which was important given the time of the year. Overall very happy with my stay and would stay again if I wanted to stay near the old town.

Cleanliness, location and size of apartment.
What could be improved: Password for the lock to obtain key was not provided in advance what led to delay in entering accommodation.Small apartment in Dresden with easy walk to the old town. – Deirdre from United Kingdom – June 18, 2024 (7/10)
The location of the property is excellent, just a few minutes walk into old town Dresden and the Zwinger palace. The apartment is smaller than the pictures imply, but it’s certainly neat and functional. It is nicely furnished with all we required. It was relatively easy to find from the train station, actually only a 10 minute walk, we had no problems with the neighbourhood. There is a vegan restaurant just up from the apartment, a coffee shop and a pub type hostelry.
What could be improved: The first morning we found the shower out of order, a very small trickle of not very warm water. I notified the owner who told us it was a problem affecting the whole block. However, this situation lasted for all 3 nights of our stay and the owner seemed fairly indifferent to this problem and our inability to have proper showers, especially when trying to wash one’s hair – not easy. No offer of a small refund and just the insistence that it was out of his control.. I would say that the hot water from both the bathroom tap and in the kitchen never faltered and had a strong flow, which seemed odd to us. I also thought the repeated insistence that we strip the bed, wash up, put out the rubbish and put all the towels with the bed linen unnecessary, inferring that ‘we wouldn’t like the next tenants to find the apartment other than how we found it’ ridiculous, surely he employs a cleaner after each letting! We paid for our stay and we are not expecting to be given housework. I would not leave anywhere other than I found it, and this I feel was rude and unnecessary. Hence the 7 rating.Cute and nice small apartment for a single person or a couple. – Nancy from United States – September 14, 2023 (8/10)
Great apartment! It was very close to Zwinger but tucked away and not a noisy street.
What could be improved: Needed a fan to help cool down on a hot day. The pdf with instructions for checkin was hard to read and find in my email. I would’ve preferred check in clear instructions in Booking messaging- with code and name of apartment clear. We had to have help from others to find which apartment was ours.Wonderful – Ingrid from United States – August 23, 2023 (9/10)
It was a nice place to stay while visiting Dresden. Contactless check-in was easy and the host was very clear & detailed about what to expect. It's also within walking distance of the main sights which is convenient.
Very Good – Stephanie from United Kingdom – August 22, 2023 (8/10)
The apartment had a lot of character for the size of it. There was tea and coffee available to use and the apartment is close by to the train station and the main city attractions.
Wonderful – Ct from Austria – August 15, 2023 (9/10)
