The name literally means “old cider mill,” and honestly, that tells you everything about this place’s character before you even walk through the door. Tucked away in Lockwitzgrund – and I mean really tucked away, you’ll probably miss the turn the first time – this little gem sits in what used to be an actual working mill. The Prohlis district isn’t exactly where most tourists end up, which is actually perfect if you’re tired of fighting crowds just to grab breakfast.

The building itself has this wonderful industrial-meets-cozy thing going on. You can still see some of the original stonework, and there’s this subtle apple scent that seems to linger in the common areas (probably my imagination, but I swear it’s there). The rooms are surprisingly spacious for a 3-star place – I mean, German hotel rooms can be shoebox-tiny, but these actually let you open your suitcase without doing yoga poses around the bed. What really impressed me was how quiet it gets at night. Prohlis isn’t exactly bustling with nightlife, so you’ll actually sleep instead of listening to drunk tourists stumbling around cobblestones until 3 AM like you would in Altstadt. The parking situation is refreshingly straightforward too – there’s space, it’s free, and you don’t need to navigate medieval streets designed for horse carts.

Here’s the thing about the location that the guidebooks won’t tell you: you’re about a 15-minute tram ride from Dresden’s main attractions, but you’re also walking distance to some genuinely local spots. There’s this little bakery around the corner that opens early (the owners clearly know their regular customers by name), and if you head toward Nickern, you’ll find restaurants where the menus aren’t translated into five languages and the prices won’t make you wince. The S-Bahn connection is solid – you can be in the city center or even catch a train to other Saxon towns without the usual tourist-district markup on everything. I actually found myself looking forward to coming back here each evening, which doesn’t always happen when you’re staying somewhere purely for convenience. The staff seems genuinely happy to be there, not just professionally polite, and they know their neighborhood well enough to give you directions that actually work. It’s the kind of place where a 9.2 rating makes perfect sense – not flashy or Instagram-perfect, but everything works exactly as it should, and you’ll leave feeling like you discovered something rather than just booked something.

  Komfortable Ferienwohnung mit günstiger Lage zum ÖPNV. Die Lage ist ruhig, trotzdem ist man schnell mit dem Bus in der Stadt. Auch als Ausgangspunkt zum Wandern ideal geeignet. Der Gastgeber ist zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit, auch zahlreiche Ausflugstipps werden bereitgestellt. Als Sahnehäubchen gibt es 5 Gehminuten entfernt einen Bäcker, der noch handwerklich super Brötchen und leckeren Kuchen backt. Jederzeit wieder!

  Bardzo wygodny apartament z miejscem parkingowym, mimo że miejsce jest oddalone od centrum Drezna to komunikacja okazała się bardzo dobra, w apartamencie znajduje się wszystko, co potrzeba.

  The location is really good. We travelled by car and it was convenient to visit not only the city center but Konigstein and Bastai as well. The property description was full, we found everything we needed. The hosts were ready to resolve any questions (luckily, we didn't have any).
