But this little apartment (and yeah, it’s definitely more apartment than hotel room) completely won me over. The name’s a mouthful – “70 qm Wohlfühlperle” basically means “70 square meter feel-good gem” – but it’s actually pretty accurate once you settle in.

The first thing that hits you is how quiet it is, which is saying something since you’re still technically in Dresden. I mean, you can hear the occasional tram rumbling by on nearby streets, but inside? Dead silent, especially at night. The balkon they mention isn’t just marketing speak either – it’s genuinely spacious, big enough for morning coffee and people-watching. From there, you get this nice view of the neighborhood’s mix of old Dresden architecture and newer builds that somehow doesn’t look terrible together. What really impressed me was how quickly you can actually get into the city center. The S1 from Dresden-Cotta station gets you to Hauptbahnhof in maybe 8 minutes, and from there you’re walking distance to the Frauenkirche and all that touristy stuff. I timed it once – door to Altmarkt in under 25 minutes, which honestly beats a lot of “centrally located” places I’ve stayed.

The apartment itself feels like someone’s actual home, not some sterile rental unit. There’s this lived-in comfort that you don’t usually find in hotels – proper kitchen with everything you’d need, bathroom that’s been recently updated (good water pressure, thank god), and furniture that’s clearly been chosen by someone who cares rather than bulk-ordered from some hospitality catalog. The 70 square meters gives you room to actually spread out, which was perfect after spending days walking around Dresden’s cobblestones. I particularly loved the evening routine of grabbing groceries from the Netto down the street and cooking dinner instead of hunting for restaurants every night. The Wi-Fi worked great for video calls back home, and there’s decent natural light throughout the day. That 9.7 rating makes total sense to me – it’s one of those places where everything just works the way it should, without any major surprises or disappointments. If you’re the type who prefers feeling like a temporary local rather than an obvious tourist, and you don’t mind a quick tram ride to reach Dresden’s main attractions, this spot in Cotta is actually pretty brilliant.
