Wohnglück mit Balkon im Preußischen Viertel Overview
Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Dresden, but this little apartment on Baumstraße really surprised me. The name’s a mouthful – Wohnglück mit Balkon im Preußischen Viertel – but honestly, it fits. You know how sometimes you book a place and hope it doesn’t disappoint? This one actually exceeded expectations, which doesn’t happen often with 3-star spots.
The Preußisches Viertel is one of those neighborhoods that locals love but tourists somehow miss. It’s about a 10-minute tram ride from the main tourist chaos around the Frauenkirche, which means you get that authentic Dresden feel without paying tourist prices for everything. I mean, there’s a proper bakery right down the street where you can grab fresh Striezel (Dresden’s famous stollen bread) and the guy behind the counter actually remembers your order after a couple days. The balkon they mention in the name isn’t huge, but it’s perfect for morning coffee – you can watch the neighborhood wake up, hear the trams rumbling by on the main street. There’s something really satisfying about that morning routine when you’re traveling.
What struck me most was how the place felt like someone’s actual home, not a sterile rental. The furniture has character – not fancy, but comfortable in that lived-in way that makes you want to sprawl out and plan your day properly. The kitchen’s small but functional (I made pasta one night because honestly, you can only eat so much schnitzel), and they’ve got all the basics covered. Parking was easier than I expected for this part of Dresden – there are spots on the street, and I never had to circle around looking. The 9-rating makes sense once you’re there a day or two. It’s not luxury, but it’s thoughtful. Little touches like decent hangers in the closet, a mirror that’s actually at the right height, shower pressure that doesn’t make you question your life choices. The building itself has that solid German construction feel – thick walls, so you’re not hearing every conversation from next door. Check-in was smooth, no drama, which after some of my Berlin experiences felt like a small miracle. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dresden like you’re visiting a friend rather than doing the full tourist production, this works really well. The Neustadt area has great restaurants within walking distance, and you can easily get to the historic center when you want that postcard Dresden experience, then retreat back to a neighborhood that feels real.

Toller Gastgeber!
