Villa Haniel Apartment Frieda Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Villa Haniel Apartment Frieda on Leubnitzer Straße, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard residential building in Dresden’s Plauen district. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that don’t scream “tourist accommodation” from the street. This place has that 9.2 rating for good reason, and after spending a few nights there, I actually get why locals seem to prefer this quiet corner over the busier areas closer to the Altstadt.
The apartment itself feels more like staying at a friend’s place than a typical hotel – which is exactly what you want when you’re planning to actually live somewhere for more than a night or two. Frieda (and honestly, I love that they name their units) has this lived-in comfort that’s hard to fake. The kitchen actually works for cooking real meals, not just heating up leftovers, and there’s enough counter space that you won’t be playing Tetris with your groceries. The windows face away from the main street, so you get these surprisingly peaceful mornings – no trams rattling by at 6 AM like you’d deal with closer to the city center. I mean, Plauen isn’t exactly the tourist hotspot of Dresden, but that’s sort of the point. You’re living like people actually live here, walking to the local bakery instead of fighting crowds at some overpriced café near the Frauenkirche.
What really sold me on this place was the small stuff that shows someone’s actually thinking about guests as real people. The shower has proper water pressure (you’d be amazed how rare this is in older German buildings), there’s a decent coffee setup that doesn’t involve those terrible pod machines, and – this might sound weird – but the wifi actually works in every room. The whole setup feels thoughtful without being fussy. Plus, you’re maybe fifteen minutes by tram to Dresden’s main attractions, but you can also just walk down to the Plauenscher Grund if you want to escape the city entirely. It’s one of those locations where you feel connected to actual Dresden life rather than just passing through it. The only minor thing I’d mention is that check-in requires a bit of coordination since it’s not a traditional hotel front desk situation, but the communication was solid and honestly, it’s worth the extra five minutes of planning for what you get.
Hotels near me in Dresden offer convenient access to the historic Altstadt, where guests can easily walk to the Zwinger Palace, Semperoper, and other architectural masterpieces.

Frieda ist ein sehr gutes Apartment. Zur Innenstadt fährt man fünf Busstationen, Haltestelle ist nah. Tagesticket Juli 2023 : 8 euro. Supermarkt direkt um die Ecke.
What could be improved: Ich bin ein breites Bett gewöhnt, die Matratzenbreite war mir zu schmal.Wonderful – Štěpán from Czech Republic – April 3, 2023 (9/10)
