Taste Hotel Dresden-ehemals Residenz Alt Dresden Overview
You know what caught me off guard about this place? The name is honestly a mouthful – Taste Hotel Dresden-ehemals Residenz Alt Dresden – but once you’re actually there on Mobschatzer Straße, it all makes sense. I mean, they clearly went through some rebranding situation (that “ehemals” part gives it away), but the hotel itself has found its groove. It’s tucked into the Cotta district, which isn’t where most tourists end up, and honestly that’s part of its charm. You’re about fifteen minutes from the main Dresden action, but the neighborhood feels authentically German in a way that the tourist-heavy Altstadt sometimes doesn’t.
The building has this interesting mix going on – you can tell it used to be something more traditional (probably explains the “Alt Dresden” reference), but they’ve updated it with modern touches that actually work well together. My room was surprisingly spacious, and I appreciated that they didn’t go overboard with trendy design stuff that looks good in photos but is annoying to live with. The beds are properly firm – none of that squishy hotel mattress nonsense – and the bathrooms are well thought out, though the shower pressure could be stronger if I’m being picky. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re on a main street. The windows must be decent quality because Dresden traffic doesn’t really penetrate.
The staff genuinely seems to know what they’re doing, which isn’t always a given at four-star places. Check-in was smooth, and when I asked about getting to the Frauenkirche, the guy at the desk didn’t just hand me a generic map – he actually explained the tram connections and mentioned that the 7 line gets crowded during rush hour, so maybe wait until after 7 PM if you’re not in a hurry. Little details like that matter when you’re trying to navigate a city efficiently. Parking is available, which is clutch in Dresden (seriously, street parking in the city center is a nightmare), and they don’t gouge you for it like some hotels do. The breakfast spread is solid without being overwhelming – good local breads, decent coffee, and they had actual butter instead of that weird margarine substitute some places try to pass off. Overall, it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without trying to be something it’s not. That 8.2 rating feels about right – not perfect, but definitely reliable, and you’ll probably leave feeling like you got good value for what you paid.
The concierge service in Dresden can arrange exclusive tours of the Green Vault treasury, secure opera tickets, and organize day trips to nearby Saxon Switzerland National Park.

What could be improved: upon our arrival we wanted to drink a draft beer, but the bartender said they are closing. Then 10 minutes later we saw he is tapping the beer for others.Very Good – Adam from Hungary – October 22, 2024 (8/10)
Great breakfast included in the price
What could be improved: My car parking outside was full of bird p** in the morning. It costs me an extra car wash. Don’t park under the huge trees 🙂A comfy hotel – Terje from Luxembourg – October 8, 2024 (8/10)
Lots of amenities, free parking
What could be improved: Outdated decor in the rooms. But it is a matter of taste. The room and breakfast was nice but pocę for a bottle of water which is usually complimentary was outrageous. – Stan from United States – September 11, 2024 (9/10)
The room was very nice and breakfast was great.
What could be improved: I asked to purchase a bottle of water after I arrived. The gentleman behind the desk was not very friendly and told me it costs $6.50 Euros for a bottle. I paid it because I didn’t have another option but believe that is outrageous for a bottle of water. The next day I bought two bottles of water and two beers at a store nearby for almost the same price.Good chain hotel – Anth51ea from United Kingdom – August 22, 2024 (9/10)
Comfortable room. A bath! Truly excellent breakfast. Dog friendly but 15€.Location easy to find and able to walk along the river Elbe.
What could be improved: Not able to make a drink in our room – had to use room service.
A bit impersonalNice hotel – Francesco from Italy – June 17, 2024 (9/10)
Good hotel for short stays, good quality for the money, and kind staff. The room was nice and comfortable, the hotel restaurant was nice as well!
What could be improved: Parking was unfortunately full, and there was not a great variety at breakfastA very nice place to stay – Monika from Ireland – May 15, 2024 (8/10)
A very comfortable hotel, near a large shop, in a quiet residential area. The receptionist (Michael) was exceptionally nice and helpful. Tram stop is just around the corner. Loved the large windows in the room. Comfortable bed and bathroom. A bit dated, but still very nice, welcoming hotel. Would stay here again, and hopefully will!
What could be improved: The small parking area which fills up very quickly. Underground car park is available, but rather pricey.
There was only one barman at the bar, and poor guy was rushed off his feet. Trying to make drinks for the bar AND for the hotel restaurant, AND a separate lounge… way too much work for one person. Unfortunately no snacks were available at the bar.
