Relais & Châteaux Bülow Palais Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the Bülow Palais – I mean, Dresden’s Neustadt has plenty of nice buildings, but this one actually made me stop and look twice. It’s tucked right on Königsstraße, which is perfect because you’re literally a two-minute walk from all the quirky bars and cafes that make this side of the Elbe so much more interesting than the touristy Altstadt across the river. The building itself is this gorgeous baroque thing that’s been converted so thoughtfully – you know how some luxury hotels feel like they’re trying too hard? This place just feels… right.

What really got me was the attention to detail inside. The rooms have this perfect balance of old-world elegance and actual comfort – none of that “beautiful but you can’t figure out how to turn on the lights” nonsense. The beds are ridiculously good (I’m talking about the kind of sleep where you wake up confused about what country you’re in), and honestly, the bathrooms are works of art. Marble everywhere, but the heated floors mean you’re not freezing when you step out of the shower in January. The staff seems to actually care about what they’re doing, which is refreshing – they knew the neighborhood well enough to send me to this tiny wine bar around the corner that I never would have found otherwise.

Here’s what I really appreciated though: the location gives you the best of both worlds. You can walk across Augustus Bridge in about ten minutes to hit all the major sights – Frauenkirche, Zwinger, the works – but then you come back to Neustadt for dinner and drinks without dealing with tour groups. The hotel’s restaurant is excellent (try the Saxon specialties if you’re feeling adventurous), but there’s also incredible food within walking distance. Parking can be a bit tricky in this area, but the hotel sorted it out without any drama. The whole experience just felt effortless in a way that you don’t often get, even at five-star places. Sure, you’re paying for it, but when you’re exploring a city like Dresden – especially if you want to actually experience it rather than just check boxes – having a base this solid makes all the difference.

Best hotels in Dresden range from charming boutique properties near the Frauenkirche to elegant riverside accommodations with stunning views of the baroque skyline and Elbe River.

Reviews of Relais & Châteaux Bülow Palais

  • Great place to stay in Dresden – Suzanne from Australia – July 21, 2025 (10/10)

At first I was hesitant in booking a hotel which was not in the Old Town but it was the best thing to do as you were close enough to walk to the main sights whilst being able to escape the crowds. There were plenty of restaurants nearby which were reasonably priced. Our room was spacious and extremely comfortable. The hotel staff were very professional and eager to help with any inquiries. There was an underground carpark the cost of which was included in our package as was a very good buffet breakfast.

  • Exceptional – Joakim from Finland – July 12, 2025 (10/10)

  • Wonderful experience with very professional desk staff. Perhaps don't eat in, and take ear plugs. – Russell from Australia – June 6, 2025 (8/10)

Greeted at the front door. Wonderful room and excellent location.

What could be improved: Disastrous dinner. Misplaced order, a crayfish dish lacking crayfish with a Maitre'd who didn't want to know, and very expensive. Church bells were intrusive.
