The moment I walked into this massive 91-square-meter apartment on Marienstraße, I realized I wasn’t dealing with your typical cramped European city accommodation. I mean, honestly, most Dresden places squeeze you into spaces barely big enough for your luggage, but these Pineapple folks actually get it – they’ve carved out proper living space in the heart of Altstadt.

The location is pretty brilliant if you know Dresden at all. Marienstraße sits right in that sweet spot where you’re literally walking distance from Frauenkirche and the Zwinger (we’re talking maybe 3-4 minutes on foot), but you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos that hits Neumarkt every morning. I actually loved stepping out in the early evening when the light hits those baroque facades just right – there’s this golden hour thing that happens around 7 PM in summer that locals don’t even notice anymore, but it’ll stop you in your tracks. The third floor position means you catch glimpses of the city without the street noise, though you’ll still hear the occasional tram rumbling down nearby streets.

What really sold me was the parking situation – and look, I know that sounds mundane, but if you’ve ever tried finding a spot in Altstadt, you’ll understand why that free parking space is basically gold. Most hotels either don’t offer it or charge you 15-20 euros per night, so having it included just makes everything easier. The apartment itself feels more like staying at a well-designed friend’s place than a hotel room. There’s actual counter space in the kitchen (revolutionary concept, I know), and the living area doesn’t feel like an afterthought. I found myself actually using the dining table for morning coffee instead of perching on the bed like some kind of traveling gremlin.

The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy in that over-the-top way that screams “look how luxurious we are,” but everything just… works. The WiFi doesn’t cut out when you’re trying to video call home, the shower has proper water pressure, and there’s enough closet space that you can actually unpack instead of living out of your suitcase. Small things, but they add up when you’re staying more than a night or two.

If I’m being completely honest, the building itself is pretty standard – you’re not getting historic charm or boutique hotel vibes, but that’s sort of the point. You’re paying for space, location, and functionality rather than Instagram-worthy decor. During my stay in late spring, the area was busy but not overwhelming, and I imagine winter would be even quieter. The nearby restaurants on Münzgasse are solid (try the little Italian place if it’s still there), and you’re close enough to both the tourist stuff and actual neighborhood life that you get the best of both worlds. It’s the kind of place where you’ll find yourself extending your stay if you can swing it.

  Close to everything. We could shop at REWE by using the garage entrance, so we didn’t need to go out in the rain. We liked having the extra sink/ toilet. It’s so nice when everyone is getting ready at the same time. The parking garage behind included was a huge bonus!

  The flat was amazing, really clean and bright. Fantastic location, all the amenities you could hope for and free parking is great.
  Instructions to get in were easy and clear.
  Flat had everything you needed, even thoughtful little touches like washing liquid in case you wanted to wash your clothes.

  The place is large, modern and everything looks brand new. The kitchen and bathroom were well equipped. The location is perfect, literally across the street from many of Dresden's most famous sights and close to plenty of shopping oportunities.

  What could be improved: management really needs to improve pre arrival communication with (1) occupants about key handover and (2) with people on site that are dealing with occupants. we advised management by text the day before leaving that we wanted to stay over an extra hour past typical 11 am checkout, we never got a message back and assumed all Ok, then cleaning person shows up at 11 the next day, turns out she wasn’t told by management — who had received our message
