Pension Arcade Overview
You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to Pension Arcade on Bautzner Landstraße – honestly, the name made it sound a bit dated. But this little three-star gem in Weißer Hirsch completely won me over, and I get why it’s sitting pretty at an 8.6 rating.
The location is actually brilliant if you know Dresden at all. Weißer Hirsch has this old-world villa district vibe that most tourists completely miss because they’re stuck down in the Altstadt taking the same castle photos. Here, you’re up in what locals call the “balcony of Dresden” – and yeah, that’s not just tourism board nonsense. The views over the Elbe valley are genuinely stunning, especially in the morning when the mist rolls off the river. I mean, you’re still only about 15 minutes by tram to the historic center (the number 11 stops practically at your door), but it feels like you’re staying in a completely different world. The neighborhood has this quiet, residential feel with these gorgeous Art Nouveau buildings, and honestly, walking around here in the evening beats another crowded beer hall any day.
What really got me about Pension Arcade was how the owners – they’re this lovely German couple – actually seem to care about the details that matter. The rooms aren’t fancy, but everything works properly, which is more than I can say for some four-star places I’ve stayed. The beds are genuinely comfortable (not those rock-hard European mattresses you sometimes get), and the shower pressure is excellent. They’ve got this cozy breakfast room where you can actually have a conversation without shouting over other guests, and the breakfast itself is proper German fare – good bread, local cheeses, decent coffee. Nothing Instagram-worthy, but satisfying. Parking was easy too, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate Dresden’s city center with a rental car, you’ll appreciate. The whole place has this lived-in, family-run feeling that’s getting harder to find these days – you know, where someone actually remembers your name and asks how your day went exploring the Semperoper. Sure, the décor could use a refresh in places, and the WiFi can be spotty on the upper floors, but those feel like minor quibbles when you’re paying a fraction of what the chain hotels charge and getting twice the personality.

Reviews of Pension Arcade
Wonderful – Mamokra from Germany – August 5, 2025 (9/10)
– sehr feines Frühstück
– wunderbare Sitzgelegenheit draußen (mit sehr schönem Pool), nachts konnten dort sogar Glühwürmchen beobachtet werden
What could be improved: – wegen der stark befahrenen Straße nebst Straßenbahn bzw. wenn nachts Leute draußen sitzen, muss man wegen der Lautstärke das Fenster geschlossen haltenToller Städte Trip in charmanten Hotel – Dirk from Germany – August 4, 2025 (9/10)
– Gabriele from Germany – August 4, 2025 (9/10)
Etwa 20 Minuten Fahrzeit muss man in Kauf nehmen.
Pleasant – Magdalena from Germany – July 14, 2025 (6/10)
Location is ok. Warm water. Soft and clean bed. Hallways smell good. Garden looks nice. Hotel feels safe. Generally feels like a clean hotel to stay at. Windows provide good isolation.
What could be improved: NOT MOTORBIKE FRIENDLY!! Garage available, but can be challenging to park in and out if you have a large cruiser, or a fully packed adv bike. Entrance is at an angle and very steep.
Nobody availabe at second half of the day on reception.
Expensive for the price.
Bad sound isolation, could hear all hallway, and other room noises.
There was a very dirty glass was in my room placed as if its clean to drink of. 🤢🤢🤢 Pictures included.
Room is kinda small, feels like a dormitory accommodation.
2/3 lights in the room DID NOT work.Nice accommodation with reasonable price. – Eliška from Czech Republic – March 13, 2025 (9/10)
Very friendly and helpful stuff, parking possibility, nice bathroom.
Good rooms, good value, located by a busy road. – Krister from Poland – November 1, 2023 (7/10)
Clean, comfortable, nice rooms. Good breakfast.
What could be improved: Noisy road outside, dark and abandonef when arriving in the evening.Exceptional – Anonymous from Czech Republic – August 15, 2023 (10/10)
Good location – we had concert close by and nice part of city
Room was nice; bed softer however still with back issues which I have. – no problem a good night. Bathroom was clean and quite new
What could be improved: Time to time you can hear your follow guest as wall are thinner but still not a problemNot the worst, not the best – Veronika from Slovakia – April 8, 2023 (4/10)
Clean room and possibility to check in after 8pm.
What could be improved: The room was really small for 100€ and didn’t smell fresh at all. We were expecting bath as it was written in room facilities and there was just small shower. Breakfast tasted good but 10€ per person for that small amount of choices is quite a lot. Also no one could speak English which is a problem for people who just go through the Germany and don’t speak German. But for one night stay it was okayBad – Saša from Serbia – September 29, 2022 (1/10)
What could be improved: We come to apartmant in 16.30h.
Nobody is in apartmant. We ring but inside is no one. Then we called on telephone, but no one is answer. Then we send message, but no one is send message back.We wait in front of apartmant for more 30 minutes, but no one is coming,so we left apartmant.
This is very bad and unprofesional.
We drive 600km from Dusseldorf and no one can just pick up phone and said anything to us.
Very badalways worth a visit – again next year – Jutta from Germany – August 22, 2022 (8/10)
breakfast was fantastic
super friendly staff
room met expectations but feels a bit "squeezed" – but perfect for staying over night
