Look, I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the ORCA Hotel am Elbschloss on Werftstraße, I wasn’t expecting much. Pieschen isn’t exactly the postcard part of Dresden that tourists usually rave about, but you know what? That actually turned out to be one of its biggest strengths. This 3-star spot sits right along the Elbe, and I mean *right* along it – you can literally hear the water lapping from some of the rooms, which is surprisingly soothing once you get used to it.

The whole area has this authentic, lived-in feel that’s refreshing after dealing with the tourist crowds around the Frauenkirche. You’re basically staying in a real Dresden neighborhood where people actually live and work, not just snap photos. The hotel itself is housed in what looks like a converted industrial building (hence the maritime theme, I guess), and while it’s not fancy, there’s something charming about the no-nonsense approach. My room was clean and functional – nothing Instagram-worthy, but the bed was comfortable and the shower had decent pressure, which honestly matters more than fancy toiletries after a long day of walking around the city.

What really sold me on this place was the location’s practicality. Sure, you’re about a 15-minute tram ride from the historic center, but the Pieschen-Reick stop is literally a few minutes’ walk away, and the trams run frequently during the day. Plus – and this is huge if you’re driving – parking here doesn’t involve the nightmare that is finding a spot in the Altstadt. The staff seemed genuinely helpful rather than going through the motions, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. I actually ended up chatting with the desk clerk about good spots for dinner that weren’t tourist traps, which led me to this fantastic little Serbian place just up the street that I never would have found otherwise. The 7.5 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it does exactly what it promises without any unpleasant surprises. If you’re the type of traveler who values authenticity over luxury amenities and doesn’t mind being slightly off the beaten path in exchange for a more genuine Dresden experience, the ORCA delivers in a quiet, unassuming way.

  Hotel is close to the highway, The room was clean and had everything what is needed. There is no air conditioning in the hotel, but there was a fan in the room. That helped to survive a warm night, so big thanks for that! In general, good value for money.
