Modernes Apartment am Neumarkt Overview
You know what surprised me most about Modernes Apartment am Neumarkt? It’s actually modern – I mean, really modern, not just “we added a flat-screen TV and called it contemporary.” The place sits right on Landhausstraße in Dresden’s Altstadt, and honestly, when I first walked up I was expecting another one of those sterile apartment hotels that feel like IKEA showrooms. But this one gets it right.
The location is pretty brilliant if you know Dresden at all. You’re basically steps from Neumarkt (hence the name), which means the Frauenkirche is right there – like, you can practically hear the church bells from your window, but it’s not annoying, more like having your own personal soundtrack to the city. What I really loved is that you’re in the thick of the old town without dealing with the tourist chaos of Theaterplatz. There’s this great little bakery around the corner on Schössergasse where locals actually go – not just tour groups – and you can grab proper German bread for breakfast instead of paying hotel prices.
The apartments themselves are sleek without being cold, if that makes sense. Clean lines, good lighting, and – this matters more than people realize – actually comfortable furniture. I’ve stayed in plenty of places where everything looks Instagram-perfect but you can’t find a decent spot to sit and read. Not here. The kitchen is functional too, which is huge if you’re staying more than a couple nights. I mean, Dresden has amazing restaurants, but sometimes you just want to make coffee without getting dressed and wandering downstairs. Parking was easier than I expected for the Altstadt – there’s a garage nearby that they’ll tell you about, though honestly, if you’re planning to explore the city center, you won’t need your car much. The trams run right through this area, and everything worth seeing is walkable.
Here’s something that might sound small but really isn’t – the soundproofing is excellent. Even though you’re in the middle of everything, nights are genuinely quiet. I was there during one of those summer weekends when Dresden gets packed with visitors, and I still slept well. The check-in process was smooth too, none of that awkward “meet us at this random time” situation you sometimes get with apartment rentals. They’re professional but not stuffy about it.
Look, a 9.4 rating sounds almost too good to be true, but after staying there, I get it. It’s one of those places that just works – the location gives you the full Dresden experience without the downsides, the space feels like somewhere you’d actually want to spend time, and all the practical stuff is handled well. If you’re coming to Dresden and want to feel like you’re living in the city rather than just passing through, this is exactly what you’re looking for. Just book early – places this good in the Altstadt don’t stay available long, especially during festival season or the Christmas market months.

Nice location, a bit sterile. Not comfy or cozy or thoroughly clean. – Cheryl from United States – May 2, 2024 (7/10)
Nice location, modern plumbing.
What could be improved: Did not think we would need air conditioning for our stay in April, but we did. Temps outside reached 80F (27C) while street noise limits time for windows open. What is summer heat like? Reception could help by explaining how shades and windows can help alleviate heat.
No linens provided for "extra bed" (fold out sofa).
Floors were probably swept but not washed, felt gritty on bare feet. Limited glass ware and spoons. No dishwasher or laundry soap. Reception is very busy, one person handling what appears to be a large number of apartments. Feels like corporate ownership is underpaying and overworking staff.Good – Babkov from Ukraine – February 16, 2023 (7/10)
What could be improved: apartment was not properly clean, dog hair was in the carpet and bath was a little bit dirty
Wunderschön! Absolutely lovely, best location! – Heike from Germany – January 6, 2023 (10/10)
