Hotel Alttolkewitzer Hof Overview

You know what? Hotel Alttolkewitzer Hof is one of those places that catches you off guard in the best way possible. I’ll be honest – when I first saw the address in Leuben, I had to look it up on the map because it’s not exactly where most tourists end up. But that’s actually part of its charm. You’re staying in this quiet residential area about 20 minutes from Dresden’s old town, and it feels like you’ve stumbled into how locals actually live rather than being stuck in the tourist bubble.

The hotel itself sits in this converted traditional building that has that solid, no-nonsense German feel to it. The rooms are clean and comfortable – nothing fancy, but everything works exactly as it should. I mean, the Wi-Fi is reliable, the shower has proper water pressure, and honestly, after a day of walking around Dresden’s cobblestones, that’s what you really care about. The breakfast spread is surprisingly good for a 3-star place, with actual local bread and cheese that doesn’t taste like it came from a factory. The staff genuinely seems to know the area well – they pointed me toward this little bakery down the street that I never would have found otherwise, and gave me the real scoop on which tram stops to use to avoid the crowds heading to Frauenkirche.

What really won me over is how peaceful it is here. Leuben has this village-within-the-city vibe, with tree-lined streets and the kind of quiet you just don’t get in the Altstadt hotels. You can actually open your windows at night without hearing drunk tourists stumbling back from beer halls (not that there’s anything wrong with beer halls, but you know what I mean). The location works better than you’d think – there’s a tram stop within walking distance that connects you straight to the historic center, and parking is free, which is practically unheard of in most German cities. Plus, if you’re into that sort of thing, you’re really close to the Elbe river path for morning runs or evening walks. The whole setup just feels more authentic somehow – like you’re experiencing Dresden as a place where people live and work, not just a museum city. For the price point and that 8 out of 10 rating, it makes total sense.

Reviews of Hotel Alttolkewitzer Hof

  • Nice and cozy hotel, in a beautiful location – Vlad from Romania – July 8, 2025 (9/10)

The hotel is located in a really beautiful area, close to the Elbe. The rooms are well furnished, the beds very comfy, and the staff extremely nice and helpful. The family room was gorgeous. I expected a kind of two-room apartment, but in fact it's like a second floor in the same room, which you reach on wooden stairs. Really neat idea. I loved that. My kids loved it, too.
The buffet breakfast was tasty and reasonably rich in options. I especially liked the idea of having the coffee made in advance, waiting for us in a pretty flask on the table. I was immediately attracted by the design of the flask. I didn't know at the time that it was actually a famous design by Ole Palsby – I found this out incidentally two days later, when I saw the same kind of flask in a design museum in Copenhagen. This was a really nice touch.
Currently the main road in front of the hotel is completely blocked due to the construction of a tram line, which means that the hotel is temporarily not accessible by car. But under normal circumstances there are a few parking spots available for guests in the back yard.
I also loved the restaurant. Great food, great service.

What could be improved: I would have liked to have a bit more light in the bathroom. Also, during breakfast, it would be great if the milk jug were refilled when it got empty. That's all I can think of.

  • Lovely quite spot in the country but just a short trip on the train to the centre of dresden – Richard from Ireland – July 4, 2025 (8/10)

    Location, cleanniess restaurant

  • Ideal location for business stay close to Dresden – Stefan from Germany – October 2, 2024 (8/10)

    Location, cleaness

What could be improved: Noisy roadworks in front of the hotel since months. Difficult to be reached by car.

  • It is all and all nice place to stay. – Jan from Czech Republic – July 24, 2024 (8/10)

The room was huge. There is a place to store bicycles overnight.

What could be improved: Just the bed was way too soft for my long back…

  • Comfortable place to stay outside city center. – Oleksandr from Germany – October 9, 2023 (8/10)

Small, but comfortable and cosy rooftop room. Nice location outside the city, green park nearby, big beergarten and restaurant on the first floor. Has parking lot for cars and tram station is near.

  • Great and idyllic location on the outskirts of Dresden. – Isa from Czech Republic – October 1, 2023 (9/10)

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of the city which makes staying idyllic and surrounded by nature.

What could be improved: My room was with window into the courtyard so when other guests were outside talking (waiting for the rest of their party) every single word is being heard. If you stay, book a room with anything other than courtyard view.

  • We will ve back 🙂 – Petra from Czech Republic – September 19, 2023 (8/10)

    Location, garden

What could be improved: Parking – you need a reservation in advance

  • Very Good – Jeanne from New Zealand – September 4, 2023 (8/10)

    Food was great

What could be improved: Staff seemed distracted and overwhelmed with an upcoming event

  • A good stay for one night if you are travelling by bike. – Eike from Germany – July 1, 2023 (7/10)

Possibility to store the bikes in a safe place. Clean room. Comfortable bed.

What could be improved: Loud tram line nearby.

  • Wonderful – Andreea from Romania – April 13, 2023 (9/10)

    It was clean and nice.

What could be improved: Comunication was very hard. They are nice, but it is hard to comunicate with them in english.
