Leonardo Hotel Dresden Altstadt Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Leonardo Hotel Dresden Altstadt, you immediately get that feeling of being right in the thick of things without the chaos. This three-star property sits on Magdeburger Straße, and honestly, the location is probably its biggest selling point — recent guests have been rating it 8.7 out of 10, which tells you something. The lobby has a clean, modern feel that’s welcoming without trying too hard to impress. The hotel’s central position makes it an ideal base for exploring the historic district.
Location & Getting Around
You know what I love about this spot? You’re literally in Dresden‘s Altstadt, which means you can walk to pretty much everything that matters. The Frauenkirche, the Zwinger, the Semperoper — they’re all within easy walking distance, and I mean actually easy, not the “easy 20-minute hike” that some hotels claim. Couples seem to get this especially well (they’ve rated the location 8.6), probably because there’s something romantic about strolling through those baroque streets without having to plan your whole day around public transport. The neighborhood offers endless opportunities for discovery on foot.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was exactly what you’d expect from a solid three-star — clean, comfortable, and functional without any unnecessary frills. The beds are genuinely comfortable, and the bathrooms are modern enough that you won’t feel like you’re roughing it. What I appreciated most was how quiet it stays despite being so central — the windows do a good job of keeping the street noise to a minimum, which isn’t always a given in city center hotels. Each space is thoughtfully designed for guest comfort and relaxation.
Breakfast & Dining
The breakfast setup here actually impressed me more than I expected. They’ve got this buffet spread that covers pretty much every dietary need you can think of — continental basics, vegetarian options, vegan choices, and even gluten-free items. I mean, it’s not going to win any culinary awards, but it’s substantial and fresh, and honestly, that’s all you need before heading out to explore. The restaurant area gets decent morning light, which makes starting your day feel less rushed. The quality and variety ensure all guests find something satisfying.
Why Guests Love It
Here’s the thing — this hotel works because it doesn’t try to be something it’s not. You’re paying for a great location, clean accommodations, and reliable service, and that’s exactly what you get. The fact that parking is available on-site is actually a bigger deal than it might sound, especially if you’re driving into Dresden’s old town where finding a spot can be a real headache. The 8.5 overall rating feels about right — it’s the kind of place where everything just works smoothly, and sometimes that’s exactly what you want when you’re more interested in exploring the city than hanging around your hotel. This hotel delivers consistent value and dependable hospitality.
Best hotels in Dresden range from charming boutique properties near the Frauenkirche to elegant riverside accommodations with stunning views of the baroque skyline and Elbe River.

Wonderful – Sun from United Kingdom – August 3, 2025 (9/10)
Clean hotel, friendly reception staffs, nice stay, worth money, recommend
Great staff, great service! – Irem from Austria – July 30, 2025 (10/10)
The hotel is great, on our trip we stayed with our dog in 5 different hotels in 5 different cities. And Leonardo was the only hotel which had a dog bed and a water bowl in the room. They even didn't charge for the dog. Besides from that the location was very close to the old city center. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
What could be improved: I can't say anything. I liked all the details in the hotel. I can only recommend it, especially for the people who are travelling with their dogs.Very Good – Olga from Canada – July 29, 2025 (8/10)
Everything was really good except for the breakfast food. The room was super-clean, bright, spacious enough. Mattresses were fantastic!
What could be improved: The variety and quality of food served for breakfast is really mediocre. Desired to be much better.Exceptional – Otto from Hungary – July 28, 2025 (10/10)
What could be improved: Closed bar
Best hotel in Dresden – Amihai from Israel – July 23, 2025 (10/10)
Great value for money, within a walking distance from the city center.
Very helpful staff at the reception, they helped us to order a taxi (with a fair price) to the railway station when we were leaving, really great place!Exceptional – Lina from Lithuania – July 22, 2025 (10/10)
Very good location. Clean, comfortable. We had two rooms connected by an internal door, so it was convenient for a family. Very tasty and filling breakfast.
What could be improved: –Perfect Location – Md from Germany – July 22, 2025 (9/10)
The hotel is located at a central location between Hauptbahnhof and Neustadt. You can visit both alt stadt and neustadt very easily. Public transport is great, the S-bahn station is 1 min walking distance from the hotel. Rooms are equipped with comfy bed and a well-equipped bathroom.
What could be improved: Although we did not have breakfast at the hotel, the price seemed rather high at €16/Perso, while we could have breakfast for €20 for 4 persons outside. Closet was very small, having a little more space would be ideal.Exceptional – Fevzi̇ from Turkey – July 22, 2025 (10/10)
Definitely great location and great staff.
