Holiday Inn Express Dresden Zentrum by IHG Overview

Look, I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to the Holiday Inn Express on Prager Straße, I wasn’t expecting much. It’s tucked into this busy shopping street in Dresden’s old town, and from the outside it looks pretty standard for a chain hotel. But you know what? Sometimes being wrong feels pretty good.

The location is actually brilliant once you figure out the lay of the land. You’re literally a five-minute walk from the Frauenkirche – I mean, you can practically see it from some of the upper floors. And here’s something the booking sites don’t tell you: you’re right above the Prager Straße shopping area, which sounds chaotic but is surprisingly convenient. There’s a Rewe supermarket basically downstairs if you need snacks or drinks (German hotel minibars will bankrupt you), and the whole Altmarkt Christmas market spreads out just around the corner during winter. The rooms themselves are… well, they’re Holiday Inn Express rooms. Clean, functional, that slightly industrial carpet that somehow always looks fresh. But the beds are actually decent – none of that rock-hard European mattress situation you sometimes get. The bathrooms are compact but thoughtfully designed, with those rainfall showerheads that make you feel like you’re getting more luxury than you paid for. I stayed on the fourth floor and barely heard any street noise, which surprised me given how busy Prager Straße gets during the day.

What really won me over was the breakfast situation. Yeah, I know, it’s just a complimentary breakfast – but they do this thing where they have actual German bread and local cold cuts alongside the usual continental stuff. The coffee’s decent too, not that burnt-tasting chain hotel swill. The breakfast room gets packed between 7:30 and 9 AM (classic German efficiency), so either get there early or wait until after 9:30 if you don’t like crowds. One small thing that stuck with me – the front desk staff actually knew stuff about Dresden. When I asked about getting to the Semperoper, the guy didn’t just point vaguely toward the river; he told me about the pedestrian bridge shortcut that saves you ten minutes of walking. That’s the kind of local knowledge that makes a difference when you’re trying to cram three days of sightseeing into a weekend. The 8.1 rating makes sense to me – it’s not going to blow your mind, but it gets the fundamentals right without any nasty surprises. For a three-star place in the heart of Dresden’s tourist zone, you’re getting solid value. Just don’t expect a lot of character or charm; this is efficiency and comfort, German-style.

Dresden hotels provide guests with luxurious accommodations in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, known as the “Florence on the Elbe” for its stunning baroque architecture.

Reviews of Holiday Inn Express Dresden Zentrum by IHG

  • Exceeded our expectations – Tony_a_r from Israel – August 5, 2025 (9/10)

We stayed in a family room and had a very good overall experience. The room was clean, the staff were friendly and accommodating, and the location was excellent—close to everything we needed.

Breakfast was delicious with a great variety, and we especially appreciated that the hotel allowed us a late checkout at no extra cost, which made things much easier for our family.

  • Great stay. Easy checkin. Efficient service. – Nicholas from United Kingdom – July 28, 2025 (9/10)

Location and staff. Lively bar in a Sunday!

What could be improved: USB sockets in room

  • Very Good – Caterina from Belarus – July 23, 2025 (8/10)

Hotel is surrounded by shopping mall, supermarkets, restaurants. Overall good experience, clean, tidy. Room is rather small, no slippers/bathrobes in room. Queues on breakfast. Breakfast is ok.

  • Was nice – Syed from United Kingdom – July 19, 2025 (9/10)

It was great. The breakfast was great. Lots of options and variety was their. Yogurt and pan cakes were the highlights for me.

What could be improved: I've asked them earlier that I need a card or may be balloon to cheer up my partner on our Anniversary. They promised it and nothing was there not even an anniversary note. I was devastated. Apart from that all was perfect

  • Nice hotel for a stopover in Dresden – Dorte from Denmark – July 18, 2025 (8/10)

Nice hotel for a stopover in Dresden (family of four). Breakfast was ok, there was a good selection for everyone. The hotel is in down town Dresden, so easy to walk to different sights.

    What could be improved: –

  • Good location. – Harri from Finland – July 15, 2025 (7/10)

Good location. Breakfast ok. Problems were able to be solved.

What could be improved: Air conditiong didn’t work and the receptionist didn’t tell us about that. Elevators slow and tricky.

  • Fantastic stopover – Rhonda from United Kingdom – July 12, 2025 (9/10)

We stayed one night on the way to Saarbrucken. Great location, allowed to check in early and enjoyed a few hours walking around this historic city. Helpful staff, fabulous breakfast and well designed room. Appreciated the tea and coffee supplies. Recommended.

What could be improved: A fridge in the room would have been great. We found the sink location outside the bathroom a bit odd.

  • Wonderful – Robert from Austria – July 6, 2025 (9/10)

This was a one-night stay on a roadtrip. We arrived very, very late (well after midnight). The staff was pleasant and accomodating. The hotel is very well situated in downtown, near stores, etc. Wish we could've taken better advantage of it.

  • Highly recommend this hotel! – Robin from United States – June 27, 2025 (9/10)

2-Bedroom Suite: Large room, beds for everyone with one being a sofa bed. Seemed comfortable though for the 9yo. Included kitchenette & coffee/tea service. One central bathroom and luggage storage area, also included a table with 4 chairs and wardrobe storage piece at the front door area. Seemed like new carpet and clean hotel. We loved the breakfast! Very close to train station as well as central Dresden touristy area. Highly recommend.

What could be improved: I wish our stay had been longer.

  • Enjoyable and convinient, expect for elevators – Ana from Lithuania – June 24, 2025 (9/10)

Great location, useful staff, comfortable room with a kettle and various appliances. Also quiet and accessible. The bed was very nice.

What could be improved: The elevators are annoying as hell, especially at the peak breakfast times. The elevator always goes up and then down, and not by the time people call it. If you have luggage, you have to wait A LOT until you get an elevator with free space. I waited over 10minutes after calling it when I was checking out (no joke).
The breakfast is ok, but messy. It needs more space and more variety…
