Holiday Inn Dresden – Am Zwinger by IHG Overview

You know what struck me first about the Holiday Inn Dresden on Ostra-Allee? It’s actually positioned perfectly – I mean, you’re literally a five-minute walk from the Zwinger Palace, but you’re not stuck in the touristy chaos that comes with being right in the thick of things. The building itself has this understated modern vibe that doesn’t try too hard to compete with Dresden’s baroque architecture, which honestly feels like the right call here.

The staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward – no fake enthusiasm, just genuinely helpful people who seemed to actually know their city. When I mentioned I was hoping to catch the evening light on the Frauenkirche, the front desk guy suggested a specific route through the Neumarkt that I never would’ve found on my own. That’s the kind of local insight that makes a difference, you know? The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean lines, decent space, and thankfully, really effective blackout curtains (trust me, Dresden gets bright early in summer). The shower pressure was actually impressive, and the beds hit that sweet spot of firm but not rock-hard.

Here’s what I really appreciated though – the location gives you options. You can walk to the historic center when you want that postcard Dresden experience, but you’re also close enough to the Neustadt district across the river where locals actually hang out. There’s a tram stop practically at the front door if your feet are done for the day, and parking (if you’re driving) isn’t the nightmare it can be in other parts of the Altstadt. The breakfast setup is solid without being fancy – decent coffee, fresh bread that actually tastes like something, and they had local Saxon specialties mixed in with the standard hotel fare. I’ll be honest, the dinner restaurant is fine but nothing special – you’re better off walking ten minutes to one of the traditional Saxon restaurants near the Semperoper. The whole place runs efficiently without feeling sterile, and at an 8.5 rating, it’s delivering exactly what it promises. If you want to be close to Dresden’s highlights without paying premium prices for a room that overlooks the Zwinger courtyard, this is your spot.

Dresden hotels provide guests with luxurious accommodations in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, known as the “Florence on the Elbe” for its stunning baroque architecture.

Reviews of Holiday Inn Dresden – Am Zwinger by IHG

  • It was our 3rd time here and we will definitely come back – Kamila from Czech Republic – July 1, 2025 (10/10)

Nice place, pleasure stay, lovely and delicious breakfast, close to the city center

  • Wonderful – Jolanta from Latvia – June 22, 2025 (9/10)

Close to the old town, comfortable bed, liked that there was a bottle of water and a kettle in the room. Breakfast was classic, wide choice, there was also the possibility to get prosecco.

What could be improved: Paid parking, there may not be enough space.

  • Exceptional – Mustafa from Turkey – June 8, 2025 (10/10)

Rooms are clean, breakfast was pretty good, location just a few walking from the center.

  • Very convenient location at a great price. – Richard from United States – May 22, 2025 (9/10)

We were within walking distance of several grocery stores and very close to many of the attractions we wanted to see in Dresden

What could be improved: The only complaint I have as an American is that there was only a minimal amount of ice available. This was true of almost all of our stays in Europe. Other than that this is a great place to stay.

  • Amazing – Štěpán from Czech Republic – May 1, 2025 (10/10)

Dog very friendly hotel. Excellent breakfast. Nice and helpful staff. Very comfy bed and absolutely quiet room. The hotel is perfectly placed near the old city centre.

  • Highly recommend – Yakov from Israel – April 19, 2025 (9/10)

    Amazing breakfast.
    5 minutes walk from center
    Clean and quiet

What could be improved: A bit small rooms

  • Exceptional – Zed from China – March 23, 2025 (10/10)

Location is perfect and it’s amazingly quiet in the city centre, easily to be approached as there’s a sbahn station nearby. Only takes few minutes from hauptbahnhof to the hotel

  • All in one comfortable stay. I would recommend this place and would stay again myself – Stephanie from Greece – March 2, 2025 (9/10)

    Very friendly and helpful stuff
    Good location
    Good breakfast

What could be improved: The maid knocked at 9 am at our door the day of departure
She should refer to the front desk first to check if the guests have departed

  • Great place to stay.great staff – Stephanie from Canada – February 26, 2025 (10/10)

    Clean and perfect location

    What could be improved: N-a

  • very comfortable bed and pillows – Lukasz from Poland – February 22, 2025 (10/10)

everything was clean and nice. The room was quiet. I could easily sleep at night. The bathroom was also very clean. Bed was nice and comfortable. If I wanted I could even get softer pillows at the reception desk, but the ones I got were already good enough. I feel asleep easily, which is usually not the case, so that is a big positive point for the hotel.

What could be improved: The room was a bit small. I didn't really mind it. For me it was enough space, but this is not the standard I would expect from reputable brand such as Holiday Inn.
