The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience the real Dresden. You’re right in Neustadt, which locals will tell you is where the actual fun happens – not over in the tourist-packed Altstadt. I mean, you can walk to the Elbe in about ten minutes, and there’s this fantastic little bakery two blocks down that does these incredible Striezel pastries (trust me on this one). The tram stop is practically outside your door, so getting anywhere in the city is ridiculously easy. What I really loved was how quiet Ludwigstraße gets at night – you’re close enough to the action on Hauptstraße that you can hear the distant hum of nightlife, but far enough away that you’ll actually sleep well.

The apartment itself feels like staying at a friend’s place rather than a sterile hotel room. Everything’s clean and functional – the kind of setup where you can actually make coffee in the morning without hunting for packets or dealing with those terrible pod machines. The windows are proper German double-glazed affairs, so even when there’s construction happening nearby (and let’s face it, there’s always construction somewhere in Dresden), you won’t hear much. I particularly appreciated having a real kitchen because eating out for every meal gets expensive fast, and the Rewe supermarket is just around the corner on Rothenburger Straße. The Wi-Fi actually works consistently, which honestly shouldn’t be noteworthy but somehow still is in 2024. One small thing – the shower pressure could be better, but that seems to be a universal apartment building issue in this part of town, so I wasn’t exactly shocked.

What really sells this place for me is how it puts you in the middle of actual Dresden life. You’ll walk past the same dog walker every morning, nod to the same café owner, maybe even start recognizing faces at the local Späti. It’s that 8.5 rating makes perfect sense once you stay here – not fancy enough to be a 9, but way too comfortable and well-located to be anything lower. If you’re the type who wants to explore Dresden’s art scene, you’re walking distance from some incredible galleries that most tourists never find, and the whole Outer Neustadt area has this creative energy that you just can’t get from a chain hotel near the main train station. Plus, parking here is actually manageable if you’re driving, which anyone who’s tried to park in Altstadt will appreciate.

• Angenehmer Aufenthalt mit kleinen Schwächen – Tobias from Germany – October 2, 2024 (8/10)

  Lage zur Innenstadt super, in 15 Minuten ist man zu Fuß an der Elbe entlang bequem dort. Für Lauffaule gibt es auch die Straßenbahn in der Nähe. Auch ein Lidl am Bahnhof (8 Minuten) ist sonntags geöffnet.
  
  Die Wohnung ist schön groß, hell und geräumig. In der Küche ist alles vorhanden, was man benötigt.
  
  Parkplatz vor dem Haus ist kein Problem.
  
  What could be improved: Die Ausstattung ist studentisch. An sich nicht weiter schlimm, jedoch merkt man es dann doch an den harten Betten oder beim Duschen mit dem Duschvorhang, wo man etwas vorsichtiger sein muss, damit das Bad nicht schwimmt.
  
  Die Messer sind stumpf. Ein Schärfer wäre schön, damit man nicht auf das eigene Taschenmesser angewiesen ist.
