GinkgoTraum Overview
Honestly, I walked past GinkgoTraum three times before realizing this unassuming building on Wachsbleichstraße was actually my hotel – and you know what? That turned out to be exactly what I loved about it. Tucked right in Dresden’s Altstadt, it’s got this understated charm that feels refreshingly real in a neighborhood where so many places try too hard to scream “historic charm.” The entrance is modest, almost residential, which means you’re not dealing with tour groups clogging up the lobby or that weird hotel-lobby-echo that makes you whisper for no reason.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know Dresden even a little bit. You’re literally a two-minute walk from Neumarkt, but here’s the thing – Wachsbleichstraße itself is quiet enough that you won’t hear drunk tourists stumbling back from the Christmas markets at 2 AM (speaking from experience with other hotels in the area). I mean, you can walk to the Frauenkirche in under five minutes, hit the Semperoper in maybe eight, but when you come home, it actually feels like coming home to a neighborhood rather than a tourist trap. The street has this lovely mix of locals heading to work and visitors who clearly did their research – you’ll see people with actual grocery bags, not just camera straps.
What really gets me about this place is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between being genuinely local and actually understanding what travelers need. The staff – well, they just get it. No overeager “how can I make your stay magical” nonsense, but they know their city inside and out. Ask about where locals actually eat (not just the guidebook spots) and you’ll get real answers. The rooms themselves have this clean, unfussy style that lets you focus on being in Dresden rather than admiring hotel decor. And honestly, given that 9.8 rating, I was expecting to find some catch – maybe thin walls or sketchy Wi-Fi or that weird European shower situation – but nope. Everything just… works. The building’s got character without being creaky, it’s quiet without feeling sterile, and somehow they’ve managed to create that feeling where you’re staying somewhere special without paying tourist-trap prices for a 3-star place. I actually found myself looking forward to coming back each evening, which doesn’t happen often when I’m traveling through cities with this much to see.
Dresden’s hotels showcase the perfect blend of Saxon elegance and modern comfort, with many featuring classical music concierge services and traditional German hospitality.

What could be improved: Alles bestens.Et luksussted – smagfuldt indrettet – roligt kvarter – Hanne from Denmark – July 4, 2025 (10/10)
Der var alt hvad vi skulle bruge
What could be improved: Lejligheden ligger centralt, men det tog alligevel lidt tid at nå ind til altstad / NeustadtEine wunderbare Woche in eine wunderschönen Stadt – Katja from Germany – June 23, 2025 (9/10)
What could be improved: Es war alles hervorragend und dicke 9 Bewertungspunkte Wert. Ich würde die Wohnung sofort wieder buchen.Exceptional – David from Czech Republic – May 7, 2025 (10/10)

What could be improved: I don’t really like that for that price we have to clean garbage.
