Look, when I first pulled up to An den Elbwiesen on Österreicher Straße, I’ll be honest – I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place tucked away in Leuben. But you know what? Sometimes the best surprises come from hotels that don’t try too hard to impress you with marble lobbies and fancy names.

The thing about this spot is its location – and I mean that in the best way possible. Sure, you’re not stumbling out your front door onto the Neumarkt, but that’s actually what makes it brilliant. Leuben sits along the Elbe, and those “Elbwiesen” (riverside meadows) the hotel’s named after aren’t just marketing fluff. From certain rooms, you can actually see across to the green spaces, and there’s something genuinely calming about being near the water without the tourist crowds. The S-Bahn connection into Dresden’s center is straightforward enough – maybe 15 minutes if you time it right – but honestly, I found myself enjoying the slower pace out here.

What struck me most was how the staff seemed to actually know their neighborhood. When I asked about grabbing dinner, they didn’t just hand me a generic tourist map. Instead, they mentioned this little Gasthaus about three blocks away that locals frequent (and they were right – barely any English spoken there, but the schnitzel was ridiculous). The rooms themselves are clean and functional without trying to be something they’re not. I mean, it’s not luxury, but the beds are comfortable, the shower has decent water pressure, and the windows actually open properly – you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong. There’s adequate parking, which matters more than you think when you’re dealing with Dresden’s sometimes confusing street layout.

The 8.7 rating makes sense once you spend a night or two there. It’s one of those places where small things are done well – check-in was quick, housekeeping was thorough, and the breakfast (while nothing fancy) had proper German bread and local options. I appreciated that they didn’t blast music in common areas or have that weird artificial hotel smell some chains pump through their ventilation. What you get is a solid base for exploring Dresden without paying city center prices, run by people who seem to care about doing their job properly rather than upselling you on spa treatments you don’t want.

  Gute Lage: nahe an der Elbe für Spaziergänge, nahe an Einkaufsmöglichkeiten, nahe an der Straßenbahnhaltestelle für Fahrten in die Stadt und vor allem nahe am Eisgarten

  Lage war für uns okay. Die Umgebung ist mit Bus und Bahn sowie mit dem Auto gut zu erreichen. Ein notwendiger Einkauf lässt sich schnell zu Fuß erledigen. Die Wohnung ist klein aber fein & sauber.

  Die Gastgeber waren sehr bemüht, dass alles klappt. Schlüsselübergabe super einfach, Zimmer super sauber und Austattung gut.

  L'emplacement de l'appartement est idéal. Juste à côté du tram ce qui vous permet d'aller au centre-ville sans problème. En face, vous avez un lidl , une boulangerie et une salle de sport. Vous pouvez partir à pied vers le centre en longeant l'Elbe.Nous avons découvert un appartement très très propre avec tous les équipements nécessaires. À notre arrivée, une délicate attention nous attendait. Des chocolats placés sur chaque oreiller. Vraiment très gentil.
