Ferienwohung Alex Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Ferienwohung Alex? It’s tucked away on this quiet residential street in Blasewitz, and honestly, I almost walked past it the first time. The neighborhood feels more like where Dresden locals actually live rather than the touristy spots downtown – which turned out to be exactly what I needed after a few days of crowding around the Frauenkirche with everyone else.

The apartment itself has that lived-in charm that’s hard to fake. Alex (I’m assuming that’s the owner’s name) clearly knows what travelers actually want – the kitchen had proper coffee gear, not just those tiny hotel packets, and there were enough power outlets in smart places. The windows face toward the street, so you get these glimpses of everyday Dresden life, people walking their dogs in the morning, kids heading to school. It’s not silent, but it’s the kind of gentle neighborhood noise that becomes background music after a day or two. The space feels bigger than most hotel rooms at this price point, and honestly, after staying in some cramped places around Europe, having room to actually unpack felt luxurious.

What really sold me on the location was how easy it turned out to be getting around – there’s a tram stop maybe five minutes away that connects straight into the city center, but you can also walk along the Elbe if you’ve got time and decent weather. I mean, Blasewitz isn’t necessarily on every tourist map, but it’s one of those neighborhoods where you start to feel like you’re getting a glimpse of actual Dresden rather than just hitting the highlights. Plus, there’s this little bakery around the corner that opens ridiculously early and makes these incredible pretzels – the kind of discovery that makes you feel like you found something the guidebooks missed. The whole area has that relaxed Sunday morning vibe even on weekdays, if that makes sense.

For a three-star place, the attention to detail surprised me. Everything worked properly (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always a given), the Wi-Fi was solid, and the check-in process was refreshingly straightforward. Alex was responsive when I had questions but didn’t hover, which I appreciated. The bathroom was compact but well-designed, with decent water pressure and lighting that didn’t make you look like a ghost. Look, it’s not going to wow you with fancy amenities or concierge service, but sometimes you just want a comfortable, clean place that feels like a temporary home base rather than a hotel room. That’s exactly what this is – and given that rating of 9, I’m clearly not the only one who thinks so.

Dresden hotels provide guests with luxurious accommodations in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities, known as the “Florence on the Elbe” for its stunning baroque architecture.
