Ferienwohnungen am Großen Garten Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Ferienwohnungen am Großen Garten, I’ll be honest — the name might sound intimidating if you don’t speak German, but it simply means “vacation apartments by the Great Garden.” And that’s exactly what you get. This four-star property sits right on Wiener Straße in Dresden‘s Altstadt, and the location immediately caught my attention. You’re literally steps away from the Großer Garten, which is Dresden’s massive central park, and honestly, I couldn’t have asked for a better spot to base myself.
The Apartment Experience
What sets this place apart is that you’re not getting a typical hotel room — you’re getting a proper apartment with all the space and freedom that comes with it. Each unit comes with its own kitchen, which was a game-changer for me since I could grab fresh ingredients from the local markets and actually cook. The apartments feel more like staying in a friend’s well-appointed flat than a sterile hotel, you know? There’s character here, and the furnishings strike that perfect balance between modern comfort and local charm.
Location Magic
Here’s what I discovered about the location that the booking sites don’t really tell you — you’re positioned perfectly between Dresden’s historic center and its green spaces. The Großer Garten is right there (hence the name), which means morning jogs or evening strolls are basically mandatory. But what’s really clever is how easy it is to reach the famous sights like the Frauenkirche and Zwinger Palace. I could walk to the historic core in about 15 minutes, or catch a tram that runs frequently along Wiener Straße. Plus, there’s parking right on site, which honestly saved me so much hassle in a city where finding a spot can be a real headache.
Practical Perks
The free parking thing is actually huge — I mean, you don’t realize how valuable it is until you’re driving around European city centers looking for a place to leave your car. The staff here gets that travelers need practical solutions, not just pretty amenities. The apartments are well-maintained, the Wi-Fi actually works (always a concern when you’re trying to stay connected), and there’s a genuine sense that they’ve thought through what people actually need when they’re staying somewhere for more than just a night or two.
Why Guests Love It
What really struck me is how this place seems to attract couples — and after staying here, I totally get why they rate the location so highly for romantic getaways. There’s something about having your own space with a kitchen, being able to wander through the gardens together, and then easily slip into the city center for dinner or sightseeing. It’s that perfect mix of independence and access that makes you feel like you’re living in Dresden rather than just visiting it. The 8.7 rating makes complete sense once you experience how thoughtfully everything is set up here.
Hotels near me in Dresden offer convenient access to the historic Altstadt, where guests can easily walk to the Zwinger Palace, Semperoper, and other architectural masterpieces.

Exceptional – Maria from Slovenia – July 26, 2025 (10/10)
A very beautiful neighborhood with a lot of parking space. Just 2 min walk to the amazing park. Dog friendly.
What could be improved: The flat was amazing but some essentials were missing like salt.Wonderful – Pavla from Czech Republic – July 14, 2025 (9/10)
Very nice flat near the city centre, close to the Zoo and park, good public transportation by tram and bus. Flat has got everything you need. As it is half below the ground and including central heating, I expect good temperature through the year. We were there in a hot days but inside was pleasant. Last but not least, hosts were nice and helpful.
What could be improved: Only one thing was necessary to think about that floor is with stairs from some rooms to the corridor.Good choice – Urszula from Poland – August 12, 2024 (8/10)
Location is close to public transport, but to downtown we drove our car because no problem with parking in Dresden. Full equipped kitchen in plus. The relation price:quality 10/10.
What could be improved: Beds. Tooooo soft.Wonderful – Dave from Belgium – June 10, 2024 (9/10)

What could be improved: Nothing!Exceptional – Alexander from Netherlands – August 8, 2023 (10/10)
The location is close to the park!
What could be improved: There was a bit of traffic noise from the small roads and railway.lovely apartment in a great location. – Francesca from Australia – May 20, 2023 (8/10)
The apartment is really lovely, nicely furnished, big windows, plenty of light, very clean. Big rooms with high ceilings, so plenty of space. It is on the first floor so there are stairs. There is also a lovely garden at the back, and the house has a lot of character.
The location is great, near transportation to the main station (5 min walk}, supermarket (5 min walk), and just behind it is the largest park in the city, through which you can walk to the city centre. Absolutely lovely.
The owner was very responsive and quick to reply to my messages. She lives in the building, which is handy in case of emergencies.
I would have given a higher score, but for the issues listed below.
What could be improved: The main problem with my stay was the washing machine. The one which was in the apartment was only there for show. It really belonged to a junk shop, totally useless. I was then given the use of another proper washing machine in the basement, but that caused a lot of inconvenience. I was not told how to turn on the heating (which I thought was central) so I spent a pretty cold first night.
The shower is powerful, but you have to step into the high bath tub, which is a bit uncomfortable.
The door handle to the apartment is really hard to turn, and if the door slams shut and the key is inside you cannot get back in. This caused a huge problem on the day I left.Great flat in good location – perfect for couples – Genevieve from United Kingdom – January 3, 2023 (10/10)
Great location, easy to access the city on the tram or bus. Clean well equipped flat.
What could be improved: Sofa bed isn't the comfiest, but that's to be expected.Wonderful – Максим_к from Ukraine – September 14, 2022 (9/10)
Good price for Dresden. Silent, safe and cosy district. Free parking right in front of the house. Spacious rooms. Friendly host. There are supermarkets 1 km from the place.
What could be improved: Washing mashing doesn't have quick mode. Can be challenging to get to the center by foot (). Internet connection was terrible, be prepared to use an alternative option for the Internet.
