I mean, you’re in Cotta, which most tourists haven’t even heard of, but honestly that’s part of the charm. It’s one of those neighborhoods where actual Dresdeners live, not just visit.

The apartment sits on Merbitzer Straße, and while that might not ring any bells if you’re coming from abroad, it’s actually perfectly positioned. You’re close enough to hear the Elbe if you open the windows on quiet evenings, but far enough from the tourist chaos around the Altstadt that you can actually relax. The building itself has that solid German construction feel – thick walls, proper insulation, the kind of place where you don’t hear your neighbors watching TV at night. Parking was surprisingly easy too, which anyone who’s driven in Dresden will tell you is half the battle won right there.

What really sets this place apart though is how thoughtfully it’s set up. The hosts clearly understand what travelers actually need – not just the obvious stuff like good wifi and clean towels, but things like proper hangers in the closet, enough outlets near the bed, and a kitchen that’s actually equipped for cooking real meals if you want to hit the local markets. There’s this attention to detail that feels personal rather than corporate. The decor manages to be cozy without being cluttered, modern without being sterile – sort of that Scandinavian-meets-German aesthetic that just works.

The location grows on you the longer you stay. Sure, you’re not stumbling distance from the Frauenkirche, but you’re a quick tram ride away from everything that matters, and honestly? Coming home to Cotta after a day of sightseeing feels like escaping to a quieter, more authentic version of the city. There’s a decent bakery just down the street that opens early, and if you walk about ten minutes toward the river, you hit some really nice paths for morning runs or evening walks. The neighborhood has that lived-in feel where people actually know each other – I watched the same dog walker pass by every morning at exactly 7:30.

The 9-star rating makes perfect sense once you’ve been there a few days. It’s not trying to be fancy or impress anyone, it just does everything well without any fuss. Check-in was smooth, the space was exactly as advertised, and when I had a tiny issue with the shower pressure, it was sorted within hours. That’s the kind of reliable, no-drama experience that makes you want to book the same place again instead of gambling on somewhere new.

  Very nice flat with a terrace, in a very quiet area, around 15 min from Dresden by car (we used the car, with public transportatiion it's around 40 min). We slept very well, it's very quiet at night and the bed was comfortable..

  Die Lage der Ferienwohnung ist außergewöhnlich, vor allem der Blick vom Balkon. "Naturnah" ist hier Programm.
  Die Wohnung ist liebevoll eingerichtet. Leider haben wir wegen unseres umfangreichen Wander-Programms die Ferienwohnung nicht so umfangreich nutzen können, gern aber wieder.

  The apartment was super clean – not a speck of dust anywhere.
  The whole accommodation was very spacious and, as has been mentioned in other reviews, the photos really don't do it justice re space and facilities. It had everything you need for a long or short stay.
  The large balcony was wonderful – very peaceful with loungers if you wanted to sunbathe.
  The location is a bit out of town, but there's a path behind house that takes you to the area of Cotta where you can catch either a 1 or 12 tram, or 68 bus into the city centre. There is a bus stop 100 metres from the property, but it seems it only appears if you call ahead 20 minutes before, which we didn't know until we were waiting for the bus so a walk it was. The area is quite hilly, but the walk into Cotta from behind the property is much easier (it's basically flat until you reach the stairs) than walking through the neighbourhood.
  Easy parking.
  The host was on hand if needed, but not at all intrusive. Language was a barrier, but we had no problems, so no need to test that area 😉
  
  What could be improved: We couldn't figure out how to work the TV, but it would have been in German (I suspect) anyway.
  The curtains in the bedroom didn't quite meet in the middle meaning it was light early on.
  Some mosquito netting would be ideal on a few of the windows so they can be kept open at night without fear of being bitten (my husband was bitten a few times over our 2 night stay).
  These are really observations as I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

  Everything is perfect – good access, quiet neighborhood, spacious apartment, very nice and friendly owners. A very well-equipped apartment, the kitchen and bathroom have everything you need. The bed is very comfortable, the bedroom is very well soundproofed. A great terrace – it is very pleasant to sit there, drink a coffee or just relax. Nice neighbourhood.

  You get the whole top floor of the house with several spacious rooms: private bedroom, kitchen (kitchen has whatever tool or gadget you could imagine if you would like to prepare food here), very large living room, bathroom (with a bath as well as shower), and also a large private terrace-balcony outside with lounge chairs. It's quite far from the city center but the place is interesting in itself: a very calm, quiet and a bit hilly neighborhood with old villas around. Also it's not far from the highway if you come by car (there is a private parking lot close to the house). The house itself is also interesting, with lot's of details and various things everywhere and it feels practically like home. I liked that it had a kind of a village feeling to it (in the morning you can hear a rooster from one of the neighbors).
  
  The host is super welcoming and friendly too, but it's adviceable to know at least a bit of basic German cause English was a problem.
  
  What could be improved: Everything was excellent. I really recommend it.
