Ferienwohnung Fachwerkhaus Overview

You know what? I wasn’t expecting much when I first pulled up to this half-timbered apartment in Prohlis – honestly, most people skip this part of Dresden entirely. But Ferienwohnung Fachwerkhaus turned out to be one of those pleasant surprises that makes you feel like you’ve discovered something authentic instead of just another tourist trap.

The building itself is gorgeous in that understated German way – proper Fachwerk construction with those dark wooden beams crisscrossing white walls. It’s tucked away on Altreick, which is basically a quiet residential street where you’ll hear more bicycles than cars most of the time. The whole Prohlis district gets written off by guidebooks, but I actually loved being away from the crowds. You’re still only about 20 minutes by tram to Dresden’s old town (the 85 line runs pretty regularly), but here you get to see how actual Dresden residents live. There’s a decent bakery two blocks over where the woman behind the counter will practice her English with you if you’re patient, and honestly, their pretzels are better than anything I had in the touristy areas.

The apartment itself feels properly lived-in rather than sterile – thick walls that keep things quiet, original hardwood floors that creak just enough to remind you you’re in an old building, and windows that actually open wide (something you don’t always get in modern hotels). The kitchen is small but functional if you want to grab groceries from the Netto down the street instead of eating out every meal. Parking was easier than I expected – there’s usually street parking available, though you’ll want to figure out the ticket system. The owner was straightforward during check-in, none of that overly cheerful hotel reception stuff, just practical information about keys and trash collection. I mean, it’s not luxury by any stretch – the bathroom could use updating and the WiFi gets spotty in the evenings when everyone’s home from work – but for a 3-star place, it delivers exactly what it promises. If you’re the type who needs room service and daily housekeeping, look elsewhere. But if you want to experience Dresden like you’re actually staying in the city rather than just passing through, this little Fachwerk gem gives you that chance without breaking the bank.

Reviews of Ferienwohnung Fachwerkhaus

  • Schöner, kurzer Urlaub in Dresden und wie immer sehr schön! – Andreas from Germany – July 1, 2025 (8/10)

Die Größe und natürlich die Lage, was Gastronomie, Einkaufsmöglichkeiten und Nahverkehr angeht! Super ist immer ein Parkplatz vor der Tür!

What could be improved: Ich habe nichts zu bemängeln!

  • Wir kommen sehr gerne wieder! Vielen Dank an die Gastgeber. – Arnold from Germany – June 13, 2025 (9/10)

What could be improved: Trotz vorhandenem Router funktionierte das Internet nicht. Ansonsten gibt es nichts zu mäkeln.

  • Very Good – Corina from Germany – March 16, 2025 (8/10)

Die Lage war gut, ein Supermarkt direkt gegenüber

What could be improved: Die Matratzen sind etwas durchgelegen

  • Wonderful – Mazurkiewicz from Poland – November 24, 2024 (9/10)

Very friendly and nice place. Good localization. Close to shops and a tram stop. Friendly staff. I definitely recommend it

What could be improved: The shower door opened on the bathroom. After taking a shower and opening the door the water leaked from the door onto the bathroom floor. All other things very good.

  • Wonderful – Sergey from Germany – September 23, 2024 (9/10)

Clean apartment, comfortable beds, spacious and modern bathroom

  • Very Good – Omar from Austria – August 31, 2024 (8/10)

    Everything, the stuff very friendly

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Great weekend break – Lilla from Poland – October 9, 2023 (9/10)

Comfortable beds, apartment equipped with all you need for short stay in Dresno, close to city tram, located in quiet area

  • Nice cozy private apartment, clean and well equiped. Shame the heating was insufficient. – Cjsc from Italy – February 8, 2023 (7/10)

The apartment is generally a nice size and well equipped. It was clean and tidy and had several windows allowing for lots of natural light. The bed was comfortable. Good parking directly in front of apartment.

What could be improved: The apartment was cold despite all radiators being on (some only worked partially). There were no towel hooks next to the shower. Only one bed was prepared despite indicating we wanted to use 2 rooms as would be two work colleagues and so intended to sleep in different beds/rooms. At times there was quite a lot of noise from neighboring apartment.

  • Wonderful – Mariia from Poland – September 30, 2022 (9/10)

We had a spacious apartment and a parking spot. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean, Wi-Fi was fast. we also had everything we needed in the kitchen.

  • Wonderful – Dariusz from Poland – August 13, 2022 (9/10)

Comfortable studio with all you can need when visiting old palaces and castles of Saxony. Free parking close to the building, tram, bus stop and grocery within 200 metres range. Recommended!

What could be improved: Unfortunately, WiFi access point ceased to work at the next evening after we came. Hosts sent us IT specialist – at 21.30! As access point refused cooperation, IT guy proposed makeshift cable connection instead. LAN worked perfectly giving 300 Mbit download speed, which was more than OK.
