It’s tucked away on George-Bähr-Straße in Plauen – and honestly, if you don’t know Dresden well, you might think you’re in the wrong neighborhood at first. But that’s exactly why I ended up loving it.

The building itself sits in this quiet residential stretch where you’re more likely to hear kids playing in courtyards than tourist chatter. I mean, you’re still close enough to walk to the historic center (maybe 20 minutes if you don’t mind the stroll), but there’s something refreshing about staying where actual Dresdeners live. The apartments – because that’s really what they are – feel lived-in in the best way possible. My room had this mix of modern fixtures and older German apartment quirks, like really solid doors that actually block sound and windows that open properly for fresh air. The kitchen setup was better than I expected too, with a real stovetop and enough space to spread out if you pick up groceries from the Rewe down the street.

What really sold me was the little details that someone clearly thought through. The Wi-Fi actually works throughout the building (shocking, I know), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower – honestly, after some hotel experiences, I don’t take that for granted anymore. Parking was straightforward too, which if you’ve ever tried to navigate Dresden’s old town with a rental car, you’ll appreciate. The whole check-in process felt more like borrowing a friend’s apartment than dealing with hotel bureaucracy. I stayed during late spring when the area was pretty quiet, though I imagine it gets busier when the nearby university is in full swing. The neighborhood has this authentic feel – you’ll see people walking their dogs in the evening and small cafes where locals actually hang out, not just tourist traps with overpriced schnitzel. It’s the kind of place where you start to feel like you’re getting a glimpse of real Dresden life, not just the postcard version.

  Location next to the university campus that I was visiting.
  
  What could be improved: The price was on a high end, I believe due to the location next to the campus. One had to pay at the moment of booking as the only option, including city tax, that in case of a business trip should not be paid. It took 2 months to get reimbourced until the check out, even if I provided needed documentation right away. Instructions about checkin are not precise. It is written that one has to pay 100 Euro deposit in cash, so I had to search for ATM on my arrival and at the end it was not needed. One has to meet a person (a very nice lady) to get the keys (no key box) and sign paper work and there was a risk I will have to wait on the street for some time due to a conflict with other check in. I would expect more flexibility and a key box from a property that charges more than a month before arrival. No possibility to leave luggage somewhere after check out. Bad was too soft.
