Ferienhaus im Barockviertel Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Ferienhaus im Barockviertel? The name makes it sound like some grand palace, but honestly, it’s more like staying in someone’s beautifully renovated neighborhood apartment – and I mean that in the best possible way. Tucked away on Obergraben, you’re right in Dresden’s Neustadt district, which locals will tell you is where the city actually lives and breathes. This isn’t the postcard-perfect tourist zone across the river (though you can easily walk there), it’s where you’ll find the best cafes, the quirky little shops, and streets that actually have some personality.

The building itself has this wonderful lived-in character that you just don’t get in chain hotels. I mean, it’s 3-star accommodation, so don’t expect marble lobbies or concierge service, but the charm is in those little baroque details they’ve preserved – original moldings here and there, windows that actually open properly, and rooms that feel like spaces people might actually want to live in rather than just sleep in. The floors have that satisfying old-building solidity, though you might hear your upstairs neighbors if they’re early risers. What really works here is the location – you’re literally a five-minute walk from Hauptstraße with all its restaurants and bars, but Obergraben itself is quiet enough that you’ll sleep well. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle (welcome to European city centers), but there are spots if you’re patient, and honestly, you probably won’t need your car much once you’re settled in.

The 8.6 rating makes perfect sense when you spend a few days here. It’s not trying to be something it isn’t – no fancy spa or room service – but what it does, it does really well. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the heating actually works (crucial in Dresden winters), and there’s something refreshing about staying somewhere that feels connected to the neighborhood rather than isolated from it. You’ll end up walking past the same bakery every morning, nodding to the same dog walker, maybe even chatting with the guy who runs the little grocery on the corner. That’s the kind of travel experience you remember, you know? Plus, when friends ask where you stayed in Dresden, you can actually give them directions like a local instead of just saying “oh, some hotel near the train station.” If you’re looking for that authentic neighborhood vibe without sacrificing comfort, this place hits that sweet spot perfectly.

Reviews of Ferienhaus im Barockviertel

  • Super short-stay accommodation. Perfect for Christmas markets. – Martyn from United Kingdom – December 19, 2024 (9/10)

Location. Clean. Very good for a long weekend break.

  • Great apartment with few flaws that can be easily fixed – Zdrm from Serbia – June 8, 2024 (8/10)

Great location and Barockviertel is great. Close to the Old Town.
Apartment was clean, bed was very good, except for the pillows, kitchen well equipped, anteroom also, room was spacious.
No noise from the street. WiFi was good.
We had a great vacation despite some flaws I have listed below.

What could be improved: 1. The key delivery arrangement was changed when were in the train from BER to Dresden. If we haven't looked the Booking App, we wouldn't have known that.
    2. After few days bathroom sink drain stopper got stuck!
    3. Apartment is a mixture of styles, but that didn't bother us. The old lamps did. All of the lamps in the living room and the kitchen should be replaced. There are old lamps with tungsten bulbs (?) near the bed (one bulb burned out after 3 days), chandelier is out of the place, and kitchen lamp had a greenish glow.
    4. As usual, there were no holders or hooks for the towels. Warming rack isn't enough for big shower towels and the small towels we have brought, nor is it ancient towel holder near the sink, which isn't even horizontal and the small towel can easily slip to the floor. Why is it problem to put double hook on the bathroom door or extra towel bar is a mystery.
    5. Lack of toilet paper. It is such a small thing, but we have to waste our time to buy a toilet paper while on the vacation.
    6. The pillows were gigantic. We prefer smaller ones.
    7. Last, but not the least, the curtains are nice looking, but not enough thick for light blackout. We needed eye masks.
These are all small things that could be easily fixed.

  • Fantastic location in Dresden Neustadt! – Phillip from United States – December 11, 2023 (8/10)

Outstanding location! Spacious apartment with all you need for a pleasant stay in Dresden. Well-located for exploring the Neustadt, as well as reaching public transit to the rest of Dresden.

What could be improved: A little extra attention to details-cushions on kitchen chairs and the curtains are a little worn.

  • What a find!! 😀 – Carla from Canada – October 12, 2023 (9/10)

Roomy, comfortable apartment. Centrally located with a range of restaurants nearby ( from Italian to Czech). Easy access to transportation. Excellent value for money.

What could be improved: TV difficult to use for non-German speakers. We managed, not a big deal.

  • Wonderful – Christine from United Kingdom – September 17, 2023 (9/10)

The location was excellent, near the centre of Dresden and very quite. Good selection of food shops nearby, close to train , buses and trams. Accommodation was very practical and comfortable

  • Cosy, excellent location. Recommend! – Zsuzsa from Hungary – September 3, 2023 (10/10)

Stylish, well-equipped apartman in a nice area. The main sights are within walking distance. You can reach the old part of Dreseden walking through a bridge (Augustbrücke) and having beautiful views of the city all the way through. The tram to the main train station is a mere 3-minute walk.

What could be improved: There's no air conditioning. However, this is understandable, as the ugly boxes would ruin the overall impression of this elegant area.

  • Comfortable, good value for money and excellent location – Claire from United Kingdom – April 11, 2023 (9/10)

Location of apartment and size of apartment. Host easy to get hold of and arrange key collection.
    Great price.
    Comfortable.

What could be improved: No tea or coffee when we arrived.

  • nice and fun because we really enjoy the Christmas markets around the Dresden. very highly recommended… – Johnna from Germany – January 4, 2023 (9/10)

nice and cozy.. tram station is just 5 minutes walk and city Center is just around 10 minutes walk..

  • Clean, comfortable and centrally located – highly recommend. – Paul from Australia – December 19, 2022 (10/10)

My husband and I stayed for five nights in December. The location of the apartment was wonderful, with Christmas markets just at the end of the street, an easy walk to the Tram that connected to the Central Station and a range of restaurants and pubs within easy walking distance. Also an easy, picturesque walk to the sights of the old town. The apartment was well equipped with cooking facilities, a kettle, coffee machine and washing machine. The apartment was clean and comfortable. Our host was accommodating and check in and check out were very easy. Highly recommend this apartment.

  • Exceptional apartment, comfy and central – Mahsa from Germany – November 10, 2022 (10/10)

very good location, clean and comfy and most importantly the owner was very helpful and kind. Everything we needed was in the apartment and the location was a top location nearby all beautiful tourist attractions.

What could be improved: there was not enough toilet papers which didn’t actually bother that much, we bought some.
