Courtyard by Marriott Dresden Overview
You know what struck me first about the Courtyard by Marriott Dresden? It’s actually tucked away in Neustadt, which honestly turned out to be perfect – I mean, you’re right across the river from all the major tourist stuff, but you’re staying in the part of Dresden where actual people live and hang out. The hotel sits on Stauffenbergallee, and while that sounds super formal, it’s basically this quiet tree-lined street that feels way more residential than touristy.
The lobby has that classic Marriott vibe – clean, modern, nothing too flashy – but what I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to genuinely know Dresden. When I asked about getting to the Frauenkirche, the guy at the front desk didn’t just point me toward the tram (though there’s a stop literally two minutes away). He actually suggested walking across the Albertbrücke because, and I quote, “the light hits the old city just right in the late afternoon.” He was completely right, by the way. The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star place – comfortable bed, good shower pressure, those blackout curtains that actually work. Nothing revolutionary, but honestly, after a day of wandering around Semperoper and the Zwinger, you just want a space that feels calm and functional. The air conditioning worked perfectly, which matters more than you’d think during Dresden summers.
Here’s the thing about this location though – you’re in Neustadt, which means you’re surrounded by some genuinely great local spots that most tourists completely miss. There’s this little bakery called Backhaus around the corner where locals queue up for fresh pretzels every morning, and honestly, it beats any hotel breakfast pastry. The neighborhood has that relaxed, slightly bohemian feel that the old city center just can’t match anymore – lots of small galleries, quirky cafes, and those beautiful turn-of-the-century buildings that somehow survived the war. Parking was surprisingly easy (there’s a garage right at the hotel), and I never felt like I was fighting crowds just to get back to my room. The tram system connects you to everything important within fifteen minutes, but sometimes I’d just walk – it’s maybe twenty minutes to cross into Altstadt, and you get to see how the city actually flows together. Look, it’s not the fanciest hotel Dresden has to offer, but that 8.2 rating feels about right. It’s the kind of place that just works without any drama, the staff knows their stuff, and you’re staying somewhere that feels connected to real Dresden life instead of just the postcard version.
Travelers should reserve a hotel in Dresden at least two months ahead for major events like the Dresden Music Festival, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near historic attractions.

What could be improved: parking is limited
staff not helpful
Bedding and pillows are not comfortable
Hotel is cold and so is the staff, don't even think about asking for your Marriott membership points, they have no interest, so if you book because you are used to other Marriott's, you will nave a cold surprisePleasant – Uni from Germany – February 13, 2024 (6/10)
Ample car parking (€16), sauna facilities, overall room (mini fridge was on and cold with 1 complementary water inside). Beds were good, curtains blocked enough light, windows could be opened.
What could be improved: Unfortunately, presumably a cleaning lady decided to knock and enter our room at around 8am on the day of our check out, and then once again at 10:30. Check out time is at midday. The first time woke us both up, so that really ruined the experience. It is unbelievable that this should happen in a Marriott – it's not that hard to only knock and enter rooms which have checked out, or after check out time. I would not stay somewhere again where this happens.
Otherwise the pool, gym + sauna is a bit of a walk with stairs. The gym is a bit smaller and the equipment is outdated, so you can almost train all muscle groups and do a bit of cardio in an emergency (no pull ups, pulling machine range adjustment was broken).
The reception has large plastic screens hanging between you and the staff, which meant that I couldn't hear/understand a lot of things they said, and in my view is ridiculous even during the pandemic, never mind now.
The hotel is outside the centre. It's not a terrible location with the tram but just to bear in mind. They have no restaurant on Sundays, and generally no room service, but we ate at a really relaxed and authentic Cuban place down the road which I would recommend.Simple business class hotel for travellers with car – Evelina from Latvia – November 5, 2023 (7/10)
It was a nice location with comfortable parking (which is amazing if you travel by car) and nice restaurants in few-minutes-walk. Additionally, rooms were comfortable and breakfast was fine.
