City Exklusiv II Overview

You know what struck me first about City Exklusiv II? The location is honestly pretty brilliant – you’re right on Salzgasse in the heart of Dresden’s Altstadt, which means you can literally stumble out the front door and be surrounded by all that baroque architecture everyone raves about. I mean, the Frauenkirche is basically a five-minute walk, and you’re close enough to the Elbe that you can hear the riverboats in the morning if you open your windows. The building itself has that slightly weathered European charm – it’s not flashy, but there’s something authentic about it that feels way more genuine than those cookie-cutter chain places.

What really won me over was how the staff actually seems to know Dresden inside and out. When I asked about getting to the Christmas markets (this was in December), the guy at reception didn’t just point me toward Striezelmarkt like everyone does – he mentioned the smaller one at Neustadt, which honestly ended up being way less crowded and more fun. The rooms are… well, they’re 3-star rooms, so don’t expect marble bathrooms or anything, but they’re clean and surprisingly quiet considering you’re in the middle of a tourist area. The beds are actually decent – I’ve stayed in fancier hotels with worse mattresses, if we’re being honest. There’s this quirky thing where some rooms have these little alcove windows that look out onto the cobblestone street, and in the early morning you’ll see locals heading to work before the tour groups arrive. Fair warning though – if you’re here during peak season, it can get pretty lively outside until late, but that’s just part of staying in the Altstadt.

Here’s the thing that bumped this place up in my book – the breakfast spread is way better than you’d expect for the price point. They’ve got proper German bread (not that soft tourist stuff), local honey, and the coffee is actually drinkable. Plus, parking is sorted if you’re driving – they’ve got a deal with a nearby garage, which honestly saves you a massive headache because navigating cars through these old streets is… well, it’s an adventure you probably don’t want. The whole experience just feels unpretentious, you know? Like they’re not trying to be something they’re not. It’s a solid, honest place to stay when you want to be in the thick of things without breaking the bank. The 8.5 rating makes total sense – it’s not luxury, but it delivers exactly what it promises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need when you’re more interested in exploring Dresden than hanging out in your hotel room.

  • Perfekte Unterkunft für kleine Familien für ein Städtetrip nach Dresden. – Dirk from Switzerland – May 23, 2025 (8/10)

  • It's ok but .. – Giuseppe from Germany – April 6, 2025 (5/10)

Pro: Very central, clean, quite spacious

Cons: there are 2 Apartments careful which one you book. I booked the wrong one. With a balcony but useless. A balcony on the ugly inside of the building.
They put food and drinks in the fridge but want to charge you for it. Not very nice gesture finding the fridge half full and you must pay for it. It's not a hotel, either you make. Nice gesture or don't do it at all.
Same for the cleaning. They leave it written that either you leave it spot on clean or you'll pay extra for them to clean. Which doesn't leave you with a lot of flexibility..will they charge you for couple of glasses on the sink? Or for a fork? It's not a very pleasant thing to find.
Also when I pointed out that the apartment was not the one I wanted. They replied after more than 14h… So obviously it was too late, since I had spent a night already. To be honest I won't be coming back to this place

  • Wunderschöner Urlaub – Olaf from Germany – September 15, 2024 (10/10)
