Backstage Hotel Overview
You know what struck me first about Backstage Hotel? The name actually makes sense once you’re there. It’s tucked away on Prießnitzstraße in Neustadt – and I mean properly tucked away, not just marketing speak. The street itself feels like you’ve wandered behind the main stage of Dresden, which honestly is kind of perfect since Neustadt is where the real action happens anyway.
The building has this understated vibe that I really appreciated after staying at some of those overly flashy places. It’s a solid 3-star that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, but man, that 8.6 rating is well-earned. The lobby’s got this music-themed thing going on (hence the “backstage” bit, I guess), but it’s done tastefully – not like those Hard Rock places where guitars are literally hanging from every surface. Check-in was refreshingly quick, and the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood well. When I asked about getting to the Kunsthofpassage, the guy didn’t just point vaguely but gave me the shortcut through the courtyard that locals use.
What really won me over was how the hotel sits in the broader Neustadt puzzle. You’re maybe a four-minute walk from all those quirky bars on Görlitzer Straße – you know, the ones that don’t open until 8 PM and somehow stay packed until 3 AM. But here’s the thing: the rooms are surprisingly quiet for being in the middle of all that. I was worried about noise since Dresden’s Neustadt can get pretty lively (especially on weekends), but whatever they did with the windows actually works. The rooms themselves are clean and functional – not Instagram-worthy necessarily, but everything you need is there and it all works properly. The bathroom was honestly better than I expected for this price range, with decent water pressure and toiletries that didn’t smell like industrial cleaner.
Parking is… well, it’s Neustadt, so street parking is what it is. But there’s a public garage about two blocks away that’s not too expensive if you’re driving. Though honestly, once you’re here, you probably won’t need your car much. The tram connections are solid – you can get to the Altstadt in maybe fifteen minutes, or just wander around Neustadt itself, which I’d actually recommend. There’s something about staying in this part of Dresden that feels more authentic than being right in the tourist center. You’re close enough to hit the major sights (Frauenkirche, Zwinger, all that) but you end your day somewhere that feels like a real neighborhood instead of a museum district. I mean, you can grab breakfast at a proper local café instead of some hotel restaurant trying too hard to be international.

Reviews of Backstage Hotel
quiet and wonderful – would come again! – Daria from Germany – June 2, 2025 (9/10)
The place is great! the facilities have an old-school charm to them and it's clear the a lot of love was put into the design <3
The balcony is huge and the view is of greenery and a stream of water – that was such a great bonus for me!
Despite being so quiet it's perfectly located if you want to enjoy Neustadt by foot and easy to reach any other attraction in the city due to great public transportation in the area. the service was wonderful and we enjoyed every minute of it!
What could be improved: I didn't like the "coffee station" the coffee machine is meant as your source of hot water for tea but it's not hot enough and often comes out dirty if you actually used a coffee capsule. additionally filling the water tank is only possible in the bathroom which was a bit.. meh?
The balcony was not cleaned as well as the room.. there were some cobwebs and dirt (especially on the rail) that I think they should have cleaned, but it was easy to ignore and sort, so no bad feeling, just a point for improvement
These are all such tiny issues if I'm honest, the place is awesome and I'll definitely come again!Great hospitality in an artistic hotel – Chikako from Japan – October 24, 2024 (9/10)

The staff were extremely friendly and the hotel really is wonderfully unique with very nice rooms. The location was also excellent. The old town is not too far away and we also got to explore the Neustadt which turned out to be a very vibrant and artsy place.

Excellent location! The rooms are very clean and the staff is friendly. Breakfast is worth it :).
Exceptional – Ľudmila from Slovakia – December 12, 2023 (10/10)
Our room N.10 was beautifully decorated and spacious, the bathroom as well, the towels were nicely soft, the bed comfortable, the breakfast room attractive, the breakfast tasty and varied. The hotel is located in a quiet neighbourhood and offers the possibility of paid parking. The young lady at the reception was very nice and helpful.
What could be improved: The streets in the neighbourhood are under reconstruction at the moment, so it was rather difficult to find the way.
