Aparthotel Mitte sits right in Dresden’s Altstadt on Schweriner Strasse, and honestly, when I first walked up to it, I wasn’t expecting much from a 3-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the understated spots are exactly what you need. The building has that post-reunification German practicality about it – clean lines, nothing fancy, but everything works exactly as it should.

What really struck me about this place is how it gets the aparthotel concept right. I mean, you’ve got proper kitchenettes that actually have counter space (shocking, I know), and the apartments feel like someone’s well-organized pied-à-terre rather than a sterile hotel room with a hot plate shoved in the corner. The staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward – none of that overly enthusiastic hotel speak, just helpful folks who clearly know their neighborhood. They pointed me toward the decent bakery around the corner on Wilsdruffer Strasse without me even asking, which tells you they actually pay attention to what guests might need.

The location is honestly one of those things that looks better on paper than it feels in reality, but in a good way. You’re technically in the old town, but it’s the quieter residential edge of it, so you’re not dealing with tour groups streaming past your window at 7 AM. The Frauenkirche is maybe a 15-minute walk through streets that actually feel lived-in rather than museum-like. I found myself cutting through the little square near Postplatz most mornings – there’s something satisfying about navigating Dresden like you belong there rather than following the obvious tourist routes. The tram connections are solid too, though I’ll be honest, I ended up walking most places because distances in Dresden’s center are more manageable than they appear on maps.

What I appreciated most was how the place doesn’t try to be something it’s not. The rooms are comfortable without being luxurious, the service is efficient without being fussy, and that 8.4 rating makes complete sense – it’s the kind of score you give a place that simply does its job well. There’s no fancy lobby bar or concierge in a tailored suit, but there’s reliable WiFi, decent water pressure, and windows that actually open properly (something you don’t fully appreciate until you’ve stayed in places where they don’t). The neighborhood has that authentic East German residential vibe that’s become harder to find in Dresden’s more polished areas, and honestly, after a day of sightseeing, it felt good to come back somewhere that felt more like a temporary home than a tourist accommodation.

  Location was good. About a 30 minutes walk to the Old Town. Self check in after hours was possible and simple.
  
  What could be improved: They did not provide bath soap. Not really a big thing but it’s just that 9 out of 10 places I have stayed provides this

  Location (close to the old town and to the railway station), cleanliness, comfortable bed, everything for cooking, heating, silence.

  Super clean, a 10-12 minute walk from the centre of town and only 7-8 mins from the large well equipped REWE supermarket. Staff were friendly and highly efficient (particularly when I managed to lock myself out!). Well equipped kitchenette. Did not try their breakfast as ate out (if you want to do so then you need to reserve it beforehand)
  
  What could be improved: Nothing major to dislike BUT and this is a big BUT, the room was described as a DOUBLE which it most definitely is NOT ie it has two single beds making it a TWIN room. If I had known this I would probably have chosen somewhere else as I prefer to sleep in a large bed
