Winzerhaus Rissweg 15 Overview

You know what struck me first about Winzerhaus Rissweg 15? It’s not actually what you’d expect from a hotel at all – it feels more like staying at your well-traveled aunt’s house, if your aunt happened to have impeccable taste and lived in one of Dresden’s most coveted neighborhoods. I mean, Weißer Hirsch isn’t exactly on every tourist’s radar, but honestly, that’s what makes this place special.

The location is sort of brilliant in a low-key way. You’re tucked up on this hillside area that locals have been escaping to for decades (there’s actually a funicular railway nearby that most visitors never discover), and it’s quiet in a way that central Dresden just isn’t. I stayed here in late spring, and mornings were genuinely peaceful – you’ll hear birds instead of trams, which is saying something for a city location. The walk down to the main Dresden sights takes about 20 minutes if you’re ambitious, but honestly, the bus connections are solid, and there’s decent parking if you’re driving – something that’s actually a nightmare closer to the Altstadt.

What really gets me about this place is how they’ve nailed that sweet spot between feeling local and being genuinely comfortable for travelers. The building itself has this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “tourist hotel,” and the staff actually seem to know the neighborhood. I asked about a good bakery for morning coffee, and instead of pointing me toward some chain, they directed me to this tiny place two streets over where the locals queue up on Saturday mornings. That 9.1 rating makes complete sense when you experience little touches like that. The rooms are well thought out too – not huge, but everything works properly (you’d be surprised how rare that is), and the bathrooms are actually modern without feeling sterile. I particularly appreciated that the windows open properly for fresh air, and the beds are comfortable without being too soft – sometimes four-star places get that balance wrong.

The breakfast deserves a mention because it’s clearly designed by people who understand that travelers want real food, not just hotel food. Local breads, proper coffee, and they don’t rush you out after 45 minutes like some places do. What I found interesting is how the other guests seemed to be a mix of business travelers who obviously knew what they were doing and couples who’d clearly done their research – not your typical tour group crowd. If you’re looking for a place that gives you a genuine feel for how Dresden locals actually live while still having all the amenities you need, this is honestly one of the better choices. Just don’t expect nightlife right outside your door – but that’s probably why you’ll sleep so well.

Reviews of Winzerhaus Rissweg 15

  • Beautiful and spacious home in Drezden – Witold from Poland – June 19, 2025 (10/10)

Very nice, clean and comfortable apartment. Great host.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Wonderful – Ondřej from Czech Republic – May 10, 2025 (9/10)

    Awesome location. Spacious apartment.

What could be improved: Kitchen knives not the sharpest. Smoke alarm right above the hob was a little tricky for frying pancakes for three kids, but at least we kept them busy faning the alarm 😃😃😃 In all, all was hunky-dory, really. Can recommend.

  • Beautiful house and garden in a leafy historic suburb. – Di from New Zealand – September 19, 2024 (8/10)

Beautiful 18th century house with a modern extension in a garden setting. Well equipped, spacious and comfortable lounge furniture. We were able to store our bicycles in the locked garage.

What could be improved: The master bed was a little lumpy.

  • Characterful, comfortable venue with friendly hosts. – Paul from United Kingdom – September 9, 2024 (9/10)

Characterful, comfortable venue with friendly hosts. Made the effort to help us with food despite our not having been able to order in advance. Comfortable rooms in pleasant surroundings. A delightful change from "cookie-cutter" hotels.

What could be improved: The website portal, and in particular, the booking form (Meldeschein) didn't translate into English on our phones, so we were unable to book in or order breakfast in advance. In hindsight (and with the help of Google translate) the breakfast form also contains check-boxes suitable for one person – if several people travel together, it is not possible to tick different people's preferences, which might all not be the same!

  • Dresden – Renata from Lithuania – July 19, 2024 (9/10)

We liked the patio outside, also the surroundings. There was everyghing we needed inside.

What could be improved: Lack of privacy.

  • Just one day to walk through Dresden city center. – Jakub from Poland – May 6, 2024 (10/10)

Good location to visit Dresden, well connected to city center. With extremely nice interior/exterior and friendly hosts.

  • Exceptional – Malgorzata from Poland – September 2, 2023 (10/10)

Very nice and large apartment, equipped with all you need.

  • It was very lovely, I definitely recommend it! – Maísa from Brazil – July 26, 2023 (9/10)

Big, beautiful, and well furnished. The host was also super nice when he welcomed us.

What could be improved: It is located at a bottom of a steep hill, which was not ideal for my parents, since we were on foot

  • Exceptional – Reivo from Estonia – July 17, 2023 (10/10)

The apartment was fully stacked for tourists. Whatever you would need. It was there.

We really enjoyed neighborhood. Old buildings. Historical landmarks.

Be sure to visit Luisenhof, Dresden restaurant. Only 5-10 min walk from house. Amazing view. Walking down to river Elbe did not take long time. Lots of lots of stairs though.

Be sure to stay more than 1 night there.

  • The corner of paradise in Dresden! – Unknown from Lithuania – May 28, 2023 (10/10)

Restful place with incredible view and beautiful yard. The interior of the house was cozy, so, we felt like home. We were surprised how much attention is paid for the children: books, games, drawing supplies, etc. It looked like everything is thought out, we found a lot of kitchenware for cooking and serving, books, information about Dresden and much more. Although it was cold outside, it was warm and cozy in the house.

What could be improved: We had missed shampoo and shower gel. Also, mattresses of extra beds were worn out and uncomfortable.
