NH Collection Dresden Altmarkt Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first walked up to the NH Collection Dresden Altmarkt – it’s tucked right next to the Kreuzkirche, and I thought it might feel cramped or touristy. But you know what? The location actually works in its favor. You’re literally in the heart of Altstadt, which means you can stumble out the front door and be at the Frauenkirche in about three minutes, or hit the Christmas markets (if you’re there in winter) without dealing with any of that annoying tram nonsense.

The building itself has this interesting thing going on where it feels modern inside but doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb among all the baroque architecture. I mean, Dresden’s got enough reconstruction issues without adding ugly hotels to the mix, right? The rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star – clean lines, decent space, and those floor-to-ceiling windows that actually open (which is rarer than you’d think in German hotels). The beds are legitimately comfortable, not just hotel-marketing comfortable, and the bathrooms have those rain showers that actually work properly. Small thing, but the blackout curtains are heavy-duty, which matters when you’re dealing with those long summer days where it’s still light at 9 PM.

What really sold me on this place was the breakfast situation – they’ve got local Saxon specialties alongside the usual continental spread, and the coffee doesn’t taste like it came from a vending machine. The staff actually knows the neighborhood too, which sounds obvious but isn’t always the case. When I asked about getting to the Neustadt district for dinner, the front desk guy gave me specific street names and mentioned which bridge has the better views for walking back at night. That kind of local intel makes a difference. The area can get a bit busy during the day since you’re right in tourist central, but evenings are surprisingly quiet – I think the church location keeps the rowdy bar crowd at bay. Parking’s available in their garage, though it’s pricey (welcome to central Dresden), and honestly you won’t need a car anyway since everything’s walkable or a quick tram ride. The 8.9 rating makes sense – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails the basics and puts you exactly where you want to be for exploring Dresden properly.

Reviews of NH Collection Dresden Altmarkt

  • Some rooms look directly onto the Kreuzkirche. Amazing views!!!! – Claudia from Ireland – August 2, 2025 (10/10)

We got an amazing room looking straight across at a church. It had such an incredible view! You can also walk to many of the main buildings in Dresden. The bed was really large and very comfortable. The shower was very powerful. We had a kettle and coffee machine in the room. Lovely teas and coffee pots were in the room too. We loved our stay here.
Also the staff were fabulous and were so helpful.

What could be improved: All was wonderful.

  • Great Location to See Dresden – Clowera from Germany – July 23, 2025 (9/10)

Very clean, comfortable, and modern. Excellent location from which to see the Old Town, as well as shop. The hotel is located close to parking (Ferdinandplatz) which only costs 12€ per night to park. They also offered a genius idea where if you are staying more than one night and decline to have your bedroom cleaned, you receive a voucher good for a free-drink. Having a refrigerator and tub/shower combo were nice plusses, and the cost was very reasonable.

What could be improved: Absolutely no complaints.

  • Very good stay in teh centre of DRESDEN – Johann from Switzerland – July 17, 2025 (8/10)

Very nice hotel. Confortable, all was prepared for our family of 4, the beds wher comfortable, quiet and clean. Very good breakfast! The situation is exzellent! Parking at the spot. I would have given a 10 if (see below).

What could be improved: The maintenance of the bad room could have been better. One of my son had to take a coold shower, seams like the water pumps are not maintained well. Soemetimes the hot water was ok and then it went off again. Dangerous if you have to shower a 2 year old!

  • Great hotel in heart of historical center. – George from United States – July 16, 2025 (10/10)

The hotel was in an excellent location next to the Kreuzkirche, & Commerzbank/Dresdner Bank with a parking garage under the hotel and square. All the main sights were within an easy ten minute walk if not less to include restaurants. The staff was excellent, facilities were super We had a kitchenette with refrigerator & microwave. TV & wifi worked well. Would stay here again. Breakfast had fresh fruit, excellent choice of other breakfast items as well.

What could be improved: No negative comments

  • Good value for money and really love the location, the staff and the facilities – Ma from Philippines – July 3, 2025 (10/10)

The hotel has a good location and walking distance to restos, mall and tourist spots. Our room has a good view of the altmarkt

    What could be improved: None

  • Excellent modern hotel in the very centre with underground parking – V from Lithuania – June 28, 2025 (10/10)

Modern hotel in the very center of the town, with a view of the Old Square. Excellent facilities, underground parking, all attractions are close (10-15 minutes on foot). Clean room. Competitive pricing

What could be improved: It's a great thing to have underground parking, but finding the right place for your car is a bit confusing (be ready for some underground labyrinth travel), there are still a lot of destination narrows showing the way. Parking is expensive, too.

  • Very Good – Traude from New Zealand – June 23, 2025 (8/10)

    The beds were a dream
Never slept in such a comfortable bed with such perfect pillows in a hotel before
