Hotel am Waldschlösschen – Brauhaus Overview
Honestly, when you first see Hotel am Waldschlösschen tucked away on Am Brauhaus street, you might wonder if you’ve stumbled into some local secret. This isn’t your typical Dresden tourist trap – it’s actually in Neustadt, which locals know is where the real action happens, away from the crowds swarming the Frauenkirche. The building has this authentic brewery vibe that feels genuinely German, not the sanitized version hotels usually serve up for visitors.
What really got me was how the place manages to feel both historic and lived-in at the same time. You know how some boutique places try too hard to be quirky? This isn’t that. The rooms are comfortable in an understated way – nothing flashy, but everything works properly, which honestly matters more when you’re actually trying to sleep after walking Dresden’s cobblestones all day. The brewery connection isn’t just for show either; you can actually smell hints of hops and malt in the common areas, especially in the evenings. It’s subtle, not overwhelming, but it reminds you that this place has real roots in the neighborhood.
The location is sort of perfect if you want to experience Dresden like someone who actually lives there. You’re a short walk from Hauptstraße, where the cafes and bars aren’t performing “German-ness” for tourists – they’re just being themselves. I mean, you can still easily get to the old town when you want those postcard shots, but you’ll come back to a part of the city that breathes normally. Parking can be a bit tricky (welcome to European city centers), but the staff actually knows the neighborhood well enough to give you real advice, not just vague gestures toward “somewhere nearby.” The 8.4 rating makes sense once you realize this place isn’t trying to be everything to everyone – it’s just genuinely good at what it does, which is providing a comfortable base in one of Dresden’s most authentic neighborhoods.

What could be improved: Sound isolation could be better.A convenient hotel with a very interesting layout. Good location in Dresden Neustadt. – Elisabeth from United Kingdom – December 31, 2023 (7/10)
The room was fine, clean, with great view over the Elbe river into Dresden Altstadt.
The room was rather difficult to find but once inside it was good.
What could be improved: During daylight the hotel was very difficult to find. After dark the hotel sign was lit up and visible.
The Reception office was also hidden away but another hotel guest helped us with directions. When we first arrived and looked for the hotel we seemed to be surrounded by modern office blocks. Eventually we discovered the hotel rooms up on the 4th floor of one of theses blocks. The Bauhaus restaurant was easy to find and was excellent!Great stay! – Mpo077 from Netherlands – December 7, 2023 (9/10)
Nice staff, good breakfast and large room with good beds. Location is also good, busstop is a 2 minute walk.
What could be improved: –Super comfy stay, highly recommended – Maha from Sweden – October 23, 2023 (9/10)
Clean, tidy and modern furnished room, very quiet area. It is sound proof, you don't even hear the next door guest. Comfortable bed, all facilities were there and as described in Booking.com, good WiFi signal, working lift, good location; only 3 minutes walk to the bus stop which takes you everywhere.
Very nice staff, rich breakfast, many options available, even for vegetarians, the restaurant staff were so polite as well. Would highly recommend it.
What could be improved: Nothing major. Only the door key trick to learn to open/close the door, it was time consuming until I taught myself how to do it.Excellent location to explore Dresden-can highly recommend – Marion from United Kingdom – September 26, 2022 (8/10)
Location (close enough to walk into Dresdens old town, public transport directly in front of hotel) presented breakfast, rooms with great views towards the Elbe. Access to small kitchenette with kettle, fridge, cutlery, microwave. Very friendly and helpful staff.
