Honestly, when I first pulled up to Rothenburger Str. 16a, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from City Apart Dresden – the building’s pretty understated from the outside. But you know what? That actually ended up being part of its charm. This isn’t some flashy hotel trying too hard – it’s just a solid, well-run apartment setup in Neustadt that gets the job done really well.

The location is honestly fantastic if you want to experience Dresden like someone who actually lives here rather than just ticking off tourist boxes. Neustadt has this great energy that’s completely different from the old town across the river – it’s where you’ll find the best cafes, little galleries tucked into courtyards, and restaurants that locals actually eat at instead of just tourists. I mean, you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from Hauptstraße where all the real action happens, but far enough from the main drag that you won’t deal with late-night noise from bar hoppers. The tram connections are really convenient too – I found myself using the Bischofsweg stop constantly to get over to the Altstadt or out to other parts of the city.

What surprised me most about Apartment 3 specifically was how thoughtfully it’s set up. The kitchen actually has everything you need to cook a proper meal (not just a hot plate and crossed fingers), and there’s decent counter space which you don’t always get in these apartment-style places. The Wi-Fi worked consistently – I was doing video calls for work without any issues. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this neighborhood, but they’ve got it sorted out better than most places I’ve stayed. The check-in process was refreshingly straightforward too – none of that awkward hunting around for key boxes or trying to coordinate timing with someone who speaks three words of English. It’s clean, the bed’s comfortable, and honestly the whole setup just feels more grown-up than a lot of three-star places I’ve crashed at. The only minor thing I’d mention is that the walls aren’t super thick, so if you’re a really light sleeper you might catch some neighbor sounds, but nothing that kept me awake. Overall, it’s exactly what you want from a place like this – no pretense, just a really solid base for exploring one of Dresden’s most interesting neighborhoods.
