You know what caught me off guard about Aparthotel Neumarkt? Walking up to it, you’d never guess from the outside that you’re about to step into something this well-done. The building sits right there on Neumarkt square – and I mean right there, like you’re literally in the heart of Dresden’s old town. When I say old town, I’m talking about being a two-minute walk from the Frauenkirche, which honestly never gets old to look at, especially when it’s all lit up at night.

The aparthotel thing really works here because you get actual space to spread out. I mean, these aren’t your typical cramped European hotel rooms where you’re bumping into the bathroom door every time you turn around. The kitchenettes are actually functional – not just a mini-fridge and a sad coffee maker shoved in a corner. You could legitimately cook a proper meal if you wanted to, though with all the restaurants around Münzgasse and Hauptstraße (literally a stone’s throw away), you probably won’t want to. The furnishings feel modern without being sterile, if that makes sense. Clean lines, decent lighting, and – this is key – windows that actually open, which you’ll appreciate during Dresden’s surprisingly warm summers.

What really sold me on the place was the staff genuinely knowing their stuff about the city. The woman at reception didn’t just hand me a tourist map and call it a day – she actually told me which tram to take to get to Neustadt (the 4 or 11, by the way) and mentioned that the Saturday market right outside gets pretty lively early in the morning. Speaking of which, you’re literally sleeping above one of Dresden’s main squares, but somehow the noise isn’t an issue. I was expecting to hear every conversation and tram rumbling by, but the windows must be better than they look because I slept fine. The location means you can walk to pretty much everything – Semperoper, Zwinger, even the Elbe riverfront is just a pleasant stroll down Schloßstraße. And if you’re driving, well, parking in Dresden’s Altstadt is always going to be a bit of a puzzle, but they’ll sort you out with directions to the nearest garage that won’t break the bank.

Honestly, it’s one of those places where the 8.9 rating actually makes sense when you experience it. Not perfect – the elevator’s a bit slow and sometimes the Wi-Fi gets moody – but it hits that sweet spot where you feel like you’re staying somewhere that gets both the tourist thing and the “I want to live like a local for a few days” thing right.

  The apartment was clean, spacious and well equipped. The hotel is perfectly located, you can just do sightseeing walking and leave your car in the underground parking spot which belong to the hotel. The only thing are the church bells which go every hour even at night. Breakfast is tasty and various, it is in another building close by.

  Good sized apartment. Good for a couple. The couch bed is acceptable too. Nice small balcony. 2 good bathrooms. Good kitchen. Very comfortable. Great spot. A lot to like. Reception almost across the road. Good windows. Good hot water and showers.
