Aparthotel Altes Dresden Overview

You know what struck me first about Aparthotel Altes Dresden? The location is absolutely ridiculous – and I mean that in the best way possible. I’m talking literally across from the Frauenkirche, like you open your window and there’s this massive baroque dome staring back at you. When I stayed there last spring, I kept doing double-takes because honestly, spots this central usually come with paper-thin walls and zero charm. This place actually nails both location and comfort, which is pretty rare in Dresden’s old town.

The apartments themselves feel like someone’s stylish German aunt designed them – clean lines, quality furniture that doesn’t creak when you sit down, and kitchenettes that are actually functional (not those sad mini-fridges with a hot plate situation you usually get). I loved having real counter space and a proper coffee maker, especially since Dresden’s café scene doesn’t really wake up until 9 AM. The bathrooms are surprisingly spacious too, with good water pressure – small things, but you notice them when you’re jet-lagged and just want a decent shower. Staff at check-in were refreshingly straightforward, very German efficiency but without the attitude. They actually gave me useful tips about parking (there’s a garage on Landhausstraße, about a three-minute walk) and mentioned that Saturday mornings get crazy busy around the church, which saved me from accidentally planning sightseeing during tourist rush hour.

What really sets this place apart is how it sits in the thick of everything without feeling touristy or chaotic. You’re literally steps from Neumarkt square, but the building itself is tucked just enough off the main drag that you don’t get street noise until pretty late. I mean, Friday and Saturday nights you’ll hear people walking back from the bars on Münzgasse, but it’s more ambient chatter than anything disruptive. The 8.9 rating makes total sense – it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but everything works exactly like it should. Housekeeping was thorough, the WiFi actually handled video calls, and having a washing machine in the unit was clutch for a longer stay. If you’re the type who wants to experience Dresden like you’re living there for a week rather than just passing through, this is your spot. Plus, walking to Zwinger Palace takes maybe eight minutes, and you can grab fresh bread from the bakery on Schössergasse before most hotels even start serving breakfast. It’s one of those places that just makes sense once you’re there.

Perfect location, huge room overlooking Frauenkirche.

  • This is a great hotel where you get a lot of benefits for the price. The hotel staff are fantastic, – Maryna from Poland – July 9, 2025 (10/10)

Great value for money! The staff is excellent — very helpful and eager to resolve any issues; they even managed to find a plumber quickly on a Sunday, which was impressive. The room is huge, very clean, and features beautiful windows overlooking a stunning cathedral with excellent soundproofing. It also includes a fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, and washing machine — everything is thoughtfully arranged for convenience.
The hotel offers high levels of cleanliness and guest support, making the stay very comfortable.
A great benefit is that you’re right in the heart of Dresden, just a 10-minute walk to museums and galleries. Plus, there’s often a concert with fantastic performances in the main square nearby.

  • We loved our stay in the Aparthotel Altes Dresden and recommend it to fellow travellers. – Ozannie from Australia – October 18, 2024 (9/10)

A great location with excellent views on the edge of Neumarkt Square and adjacent to the Frauenkirche in Dresden! The large room was very comfortable and warm. The washing machine and clothes airer was very much appreciated. There was a small supermarket around the corner and many eateries, coffee shops and a bakery in very close proximity.

What could be improved: I would have preferred a coffee pod machine to the older style drip style.
Some English instructions for how to select the different settings on the washing machine would have been very helpful. Using Google, I was not able to find any either.
